In honor of Wednesday’s Happy to be Here Hour…

30 Jan

Find Amy’s friend Charlie a job.

He’s looking for something in business development or marketing, but might take something that wasn’t a perfect fit to stay here. He’s bright, energetic, and willing to work hard…if he gets the chance.

Buffalo Reads–the city’s literacy initiative–is looking to hire a few marketing and program management people….great opportunities for go getter types…you can probably find more info on the buffalo reads website. I am typing one handed–just got home from the hospital yesterday with baby Olivia! She’s beautiful….and I’m tired.

I hope Charlie gets something he can live on in town. Chicago is a great town, but just like NC–“It just doesn’t measure up to home in my eyes.”

A big problem is once you get settled somewhere, it’s hard to turn about and come back when a new opportunity beckons.

What’s truly a shame is that a man in his mid 20’s with an MBA and some experience in the job market post grad school is having trouble finding a job in WNY. There are plenty of cities in the nation that are paying moving expenses and helping this kind of guy buy a house in their area so they can have him in THEIR town.

    Hank-

It really is too bad. The company in Chicago is going to pay moving expenses for him if he accepts the job. I’ve gotten a good response from the post here, on my websites and on the wnymedia front page, so I’m hoping that something pans out for him.

He’s only been back here for 8 months! His difficulty in finding a job is what makes me think about moving out of the area, even though I’m obviously very committed to WNY. I have a good job and I love the community work, but it’s very frustrating when someone who really wants to be here can’t find work…it makes me feel like we aren’t getting anywhere as a region…
