Team Tom

29 Jun

The Reynolds partisans have come out in full force not to defend their dear Tom, but to attack Jon Powers. That’ll go over well.

This guy hasn’t lived in Buffalo since when…..before he went to Iraq? Before he went to college? Has he paid the high taxes in Erie County? Probably not, since he’s never really held a job here.

This guy went away, and now feels he can come back and “make big changes.” What a crock. I am definitely in favor of people who were part of the brain drain coming back home and giving back to their community, but this doesn’t make much sense.

He lives in the Buffalo area right now. He lived here growing up. He lived here – and taught – between Iraq tours. Oh yeah, and he got shot at for our country. I think that’s pretty admirable. What the Reynoldsistas don’t explain is this: they keep harping on Erie county’s high taxes – yet what has our dear Tom done in 7 years in Congress to lower our county taxes? What did he do when he was in the state Assembly to reform our tax burden? How about when he was a county legislator? What has that career politician (yes, being an elected official non-stop since 1974 makes one that) done, exactly, to change the economic picture in WNY, except occasionally hucking pork money our way?

Another Democrat Rent-A-Vet.

That’s a great comment that, I think, encapsulates the attitude of the far right with respect to criticism of their sainted Cheney-Bush. I think it’s quite telling that the young veterans of the Iraq war who are moved to run for office seem to be running as Democrats who are critical of the administration and the way the war is being conducted. A person who attended Powers’ kick-off would have heard him say that he is proud of the work the soldiers are doing in Iraq, but that the administration isn’t doing everything it can to properly execute the war and conduct an occupation. To dismiss him and his ilk as “rent-a-vets” is to be a cretin.

Ultimately, if I was a Tom Reynolds supporter, Powers’ entry in this campaign would petrify me, too.

Forgive me, but I don’t remember the Left stressing Military Service when their patron saint, Bill ” I loathe the Military ” Clinton ran against two War Heroes. I honor Mr. Power’s Military Service, while I condemn the fact that he belongs to a political party who has undermined the Military for forty years.

Forgive me, but I don’t remember the right stressing Military Service when their patron saints George “who was never seen at a reserve meeting” and four deferment Cheny ran against a decorated VietNam Veteran and used surrogates to besmerch his war record. I honor people like Sen McCain
, while I condem the fact that he belongs to a political party that has undermined the Military and has treated our honored war Veteran’s ,in need of medical assistance with disrespect and shabby sub-standard medical care even at this nations most revered Military hospitals like Walter Reed.

    *cough*five deferment Cheney*cough*

Tse Tse – Very nice smackdown.

I donn’t live in powers’ district but if I did, I would certainly support him.

  5. BH Liddell Hart June 29, 2007 at 4:53 pm #

Hmm, Chesucks, care to tell us what exactly the Republicans have done to benefit the military?

  6. Chris from OP June 29, 2007 at 5:22 pm #

A party that has undermined the military for forty years? Ok, I’ll believe that when I see the first piece of evidence to back it up. Oh, and the fact that Rush said it and you repeated it doesn’t count.

  7. Pauldub June 29, 2007 at 10:28 pm #

Rush is still on the air?

  8. hank kaczmarek June 30, 2007 at 5:32 am #

Rush is still on the air?
20 million listeners a week, about 40% of them liberals.
Making millions every year. How’s Air America doing??
They’re doing so well that their minions in Congress are trying to make laws to help them stay in business. If a R congress was trying to help Conservative Talk Radio, liberals would be flagellating themselves in the streets. But the opposite is what they call “FAIRNESS”

    Democrat’s support of the Military?
James Earl Carter—Capped Military pay @ 4.4% three years running while his outstanding economic policy had inflation rates at 7% or more per year. Soldiers and Sailors with a wife and 2 kids qualifying for food stamps and welfare. THAT’S SUPPORT?

Bill (I ran to England and the USSR) Clinton?
His wife wanted White House military staff to serve snacks to their friends and contributors at white house functions. Sent us into a mess in Somalia. Put us in Bosnia (Where we STILL ARE 11 years later), Did ZIP after the Cole was Bombed, and military Barracks in Saudi Arabia, and Embassies (staffed by Marine Security) were bombed in East Africa. Gave Osama Bin Laden a chance to hide and gain strength after every debacle. Yeah, he did a GREAT Job.

Oh, Don’t forget LBJ —250 Coffins a WEEK average from 1965 until he left office. Never hear A democrat mention that when they talk about 3500 Volunteer Soldiers/Marines dead in FOUR YEARS. LBJ sent that many FORCED CONSCRIPTS to their deaths in THREE MONTHS. And for what???

Lefties–Stand proud on your record of military “support”

As for Powers running for Congress—He’s got that right. It would be smarter to have whoever the R candidate ends up being to run on the issues, rather than attack the challenger.

  9. BH Liddell Hart June 30, 2007 at 7:28 am #

Hank’s lies and half truths aside. Let’s look at just one Republican, the anti-Christ of the military. (We’ve all lived through what Bush has done)

    Ronald Reagan
Armed Osama bin Laden and the muhajadeen
    Armed Saddam Hussien
After Hezbollah killed 200+ Marines, he withdrew from Lebanon (by the way Hezbollah was responsible for the death of more Americans than Saddam was before the Iraq war)
    Negotiated with terrorists
Sold terrorists arms, then used the money to fund a drug cartel’s insurgency against a democratically elected government
Reactivated the B-1 program, a plane that cost $287 million (in 1980s dollars) per unit, but couldn’t reach the altitude of a commerical airliner, due to design defects couldn’t carpet bomb, and failed to meet radar cross section specifications, range specifications, and countermeasure specifications

Hey Hank, Talk about LBJ, how many Casualties in VietNam under NIXON, around 40,000. Or did you forget NIXON was president during most of that war. Do you remeber how he claimed not to have noticed a half million anti-war demonstrators outside of his window while he was watching a footbal game. And lets not forget his imperial White house Guards all dressed like something from an 18th century throne room.

And How about Reagan who did ZIP after 220 troops were Killed when the Marine Barracks in Bierut was Blown up. Not to mention several hundred troops who were killed when the C5A expoded over Gander Because a pressure bomb had been planted in the returned Arms that were rejected by a nefareous group of Iranians in the Arms for Hostages (think Ollie North shredding papers in th white house basement). And everytime something Bad happened where was Sainted Ronnie, he Was incommunicado in Santa Babara. Oh but he did take on the biggies like Grenada and Panama

And guess what there are no American Troops in Bosnia. There are EU troops there. And while we are at it lets Talk a little about Bosnia. Not one American combat casulalty. A war that was left to the professional Military to execute the way they saw fit. Not by meddeling bureaucrats and connected friends in Washington..

And what did Bush do after 9/11 which happened on his watch, almost a year after he took office. After 6 years Ossama is still running loose, Yeah great job he did. And now the Taliban are on the ressurgence in Afganistan and Ossama is runnning around free and Happy. And as far as GOP support of the military? Four years later and all the troops are still not outfitted with proper body army, and properly armored vehicles are only now arriving. And it took a new Democratic Congress to expose mistreatment of our injured troops at sateside military hospitals where services were out sourced to a company run by and ex-halliburton buddy of cheny

And what about George ‘who was never seen at a Reserve Meeting ‘ Bush , or 5 deferment ‘I had more important things to do at the time ‘ Cheny. Guess people with money can get around anything. Not to mention Laura, the only first lady in the history of the US, who never visited our injured troops in the hospital until everything hit the fan a couple of months ago.

And how about the republican minions – the R in Congress – who DID change the law to allow the media to expand to 38 percent in any given market.. Done to repay Rupert M. and Clear channel and others for their bias in the elections.

Poor little hankie, lashing out at the world from???? where is it you are now??, Charlotte.? Yes ,,,alone (pause),,, at 5 in the morning with no friends, thinking of Buffalo and banging , banging, banging on that keyboard. Let me give you a word of advice — go get laid kid , you need it.

  12. Joe Blow June 30, 2007 at 10:21 am #

“I had other priorities in the 1960s than military service.”
    -Dick Cheney

  13. Greg June 30, 2007 at 10:59 am #

Actually, Bush 1 got us into Somalia
The Clinton administration just didn’t allow the armor and gunship support the general wanted for the mission that lead to the events in Blackhawk Down

  14. Tatonka June 30, 2007 at 11:16 am #

“40% of Limbaugh’s listeners are liberals,”

  15. Frieda June 30, 2007 at 11:22 am #

That’s believable, that is what they do. They start crap and then they leave someone else holding the bag. Just like Ronnie whose administration aided and abetted the taliban in Afghanistan. Supposedly to get the Russians out. They even helped the taliban construct the caves in the mountains which they used years later to hide from our troops. They set the Taliban up And that led to a sinister chain of events. The Taliban took control of Afghanistan. The Taliban let AL Queda train on their soil, and gave them safe harbor while they made their plans for an eventual attack on this country.

  16. Frieda June 30, 2007 at 11:50 am #

Children, Children, Mommy wants you to hear what stupid sounds like. We are now going to listen to 5 minutes of the Rush Limbaugh show.–(5 min later) ok now take your dictionary and look up vapid and airhead.

  17. Pauldub June 30, 2007 at 2:45 pm #

Can we get back to Powers/Reynolds?

  18. Haterade June 30, 2007 at 6:15 pm #

Ahhh … some things will never change. Hank getting schooled, and Pauldub being the voice of reason.

  19. Joe Blow June 30, 2007 at 7:55 pm #

    Yes, the children.

That aside, I will never get over the fact that some (but not all) military types don’t give a flying f**k about the fact that Cheney proudly proclaimed he was better than the average American and had “other priorities” than military service, yet get all worked up about a REAL veteran opposing an insane, indefensible war,

Any so-called vet or military type that supports “Other Priorites” Cheney and George “AWOL” Bush is as much an Anti-American traitor as Jane Fonda.

Cheney and Bush are the ultimate treasonous America-haters.

  20. Chris from OP July 2, 2007 at 10:45 pm #

And getting back to Powers v. Reynolds. Powers (the Democrat) served admirably in Iraq, while Reynolds (the Republican) voted to deny him and his comrades the armor and support they needed on the battlefield and the medical and psychological support they might need back home (not to even get into the political framework needed to make their mission a “success”).

    I’m supporting the patriot.
