This place is a WNY icon…

I know you were a WNY food neophyte when you came to town…someone should have pointed you to right from the get go…for others who haven’t checked out…you should…it is pretty much spot on with evaluating local food joints…

We check weekly the comments of all sources pertaining to food, for the best evaluation of within city limits dining, generates the most comments and is most up to date. Russ Salvatore knows more about restaurants and presentation than most of those of us in the business.

Russ also knows how to spread his money around. Every non profit that hols raffles knows he is good for a donation.

PaulDub is right – Russ Salvatore is a great guy! God bless him and his family.
I brought my 89 year old grandma there and my elementary aged kids and everyone was treated well and impressed. The kids thought the service was great — they thought it was neat that they had tuxedos and an “old-fashioned” demeaner. And that’s exactly what Grandma liked too. My goodness how the country has changed…listening to grandma you appreciate what Salvatore’s still offers.

His place is the best. I never had a bad meal there.

Been eating at Salvatores since the late-60’s.
NEVER had a bad meal or experience there.

I know it’s a bit far from Clarence, but Frank’s Sunny Italy on Delaware& Tacoma has great food and portions, without the immenseness of Salvatore’s. I always take Moms there after stopping across the street at Scime’s for my years supply of Italian Sausage–IMO the best in the City.

Ah Frank’s….I haven’t been there in awhile…it has now been added to Byrd list of places soon to eat at…

My son’s wedding was there in Sept. and the food was unbelievable especially when considering there were over 200 people served. The service could not have been more professional or cordial and the service at the hotel for the 50 or so who stayed there was equally good. We were thrilled to be able to show off such a spectacular place to so many people from across the country. It is gem!

Everyone is Right! Salvatores is the best for a dress up night on the town, However

Frank’s Sunny Italy on Delaware in Buffalo has the BEST baked Ziti in town

Wife and I try to go there at least once a month

There is an elephant in the room. Most conversations about Salvatores this year, that I have over heard, center around a discussion about the the son supposedly usurping control of Russ’s businesses. What really happened there? Did Russ simply decide to retire, or is there truth to the scary story that Russ signed some assets over to his son for common asset protection and tax planning purposes only to have the rug pulled out from under him? I have found in life that the truth usually lies somewhere between the two known renditions.

I never understood people fascination with Frank’s Sunny. I’m not a fan of there sauce (too sweet) and their pasta is the same as everyone else’s.

    Hey Indabuff,

The Rappaport site is where I noticed Pundit’s food writing–he was a regular contributor there. So I think he knows about it. I check it frequently–I wish, however, Rappaport would buy himself a decent, more easily remembered url. I suggested a list of several better dotcoms he could use (still keeping the UB server location of course), but couldn’t convince him.

I Know that Russ Salvatore has been gone for two years now. I have been there to dine when he was now with out I will have to say that now that his ego is gone from the business the food is Amazing. There is a new chef and Joe Salvatore has really stepped up the quality of the food. If you want anything you name it they will make it. Salvatore’s Has never been better.
