“Richard Keresey, director of the antiquities department at Sotheby’s, the New York City auction house that sold the statue last June, examined the work in Buffalo prior to the auctions and later proclaimed it “the greatest work of art that I have ever sold” and “among the most beautiful works of art surviving from antiquity.”

It disturbs me each time that I hear how wonderful this piece of art is, yet we kept it out of view and stored in the basement.

I know that we are in the process of constructing another modern art gallery, but shouldn’t we also consider building yet another art gallery dedicated to our wonderful “legitimate” art collection?

In the unlikely event that it does turn out to be a fake, in all fairness, I think we will owe our Albright-Knox director a parade down Delaware Avenue.

    1. Still believe in the authenticity.
    2. Would love to join that parade.

I prefer John Massier’s header for this one:

File Under: You Gotta Be Shitting Me

Stay tuned to his blog–I suspect he will have amusing things to say on this one. That Artemis–you have to hand it to her for prolonging her 15 minutes.
