Massa, Lee Sworn in

7 Jan

Congratulations and best of luck to Congressmen Chris Lee (NY-26) and Eric Massa (NY-29). Both are newbz, and both were sworn in yesterday.

I hope they both remember each day to work hard for their constituents, so that Western New York might begin to reverse its decades-long slide.

I think it’s a real possibility that Reynolds looks good out of this deal. Ugh.

This brings up a point that’s been bugging me lately – why did Hillary Clinton just get sworn in again as our Senator? She says she won’t give up the seat until she is conferred as Sec of State. But other cabinet appointees don’t have this ego requirement – Ken Salizar is up for Interior, so he quit his CO senate seat and lets it get filled by the Gov. Meanwhile, we are still forced to endure the Caroline Kennedy drama, and have to wait for an appointgment, ensuring our senator will be the most junior in the senate.

Is Clinton afraid she won’t get confirmed? Is she hedging her bets at the expense of NY? Is it an ego thing to hold the seat as long as possible? Or is she trying to get us 200,000 upstate jobs in he last three weeks of her term?

I think Hillary is making sure she is confirmed first. Look what happened with Richardson.

Great move for CLee to be part of the 59 members opposing the Congressional pay raise.

Anyone know if Slaughter and Higgins are on that yet?

Had to be a difficult decision for the multimillionaire.

Too funny WNYPMH! I can just hear the howling of “class warfare speak” if Lee had not signed on! Priceless..

Btw: I believe Pelosi and Reid are both millionaires… anyone know if they are they on it?

Most every member of Congress is disgustingly wealthy. The system is now set up so the only people that can win are the well connected self-funders. That’s why everything is such a mess, because ALL of our representatives — both houses and both sides of the aisle are ridiculously out of touch with the problems that the rest of us have. Even if they were in touch, the minute they get elected they are making like 5 times the median income of Erie County Residents….suddenly the cost of health care really isn’t as troubling. The cost of gas or food isn’t an issue, but getting the contract for our best friend….now we have something worth putting our mind on. The whole thing would be comical if it wasn’t so disgusting.
