As an aside, I am tickled pink by a new political equation that’s popped up in the past 36 hours among the Republicans. Their hatred from Obama is greater than their hatred of Paterson. Also, Paterson is politically weak and a primary between him and Andrew Cuomo in 2010 would weaken him further. So, under the hO > hP equation, they are shocked – SHOCKED! that someone from the White House leaked information concerning Obama urging Paterson to not run in 2010 for the good of the Democratic Party in New York.
The cynicism all around is palpable.

this is the dumbest thing obama has done since he embroiled the white house in the henry louis gates / cambridge cops dustup. it’s little wonder that health care reform, the economy, afghanistan and iraq all seem to be going nowhere.
Paterson says his woes are the fault of Obama, who has been ineffective in getting his own legislation past a filibuster-proof Democrat Congress. Well now.

I don’t hate Obama—I just dislike his policies, and the way he’s trying to implement them. I would say anyone who gets to be President has a keen knowledge of politics. I’m sure Barry sees the situation in NYS as another way for him to get bit in the ball-bag. Dem’s running the show, and the state’s in the shitter. He sees dipshit Paterson trying to run again, and the heavy waves ahead for NYS. So he’s trying to mix things up. From a purely political perspective, I can’t fault the President. If it was Pataki and the President was Republican, I’d expect the same type of scenario.
Obama ran as the “Post-Partisan” candidate. The shine was off that turd really quick. What he does within his own Party is none of my concern.
But wait–there’s hope. Now that the Court of Appeals has ratified Paterson’s appointment of recycled party hack–er, veteran operative Richard Ravitch as Lieutenant Governor. the path has been made clear for Paterson to resign as Governor (so says Bob McCarthy in the Buffalo Snooze) and leave the job to Ravitch. Yuh.
It’s always entertaining to watch politicians eat their dead.
where are all the obamamaniacs, eager to make excuses for, um, show us dummies the true brilliance behind our president’s ham handed diss of a loyal and fairly high ranking member of his own party? at least give pundit credit for posting something about obama’s self-created mess, even if he used it to try and make the state GOP look bad.
I always thought it was proper etiquette to not interrupt a three-man circle jerk.
Pundit misunderestimates the GOP reaction. Repubs want Paterson to stay in the game, run hard for the nomination, and divide the Dem base. Duh! It’s a sacred, ancient rite.
By contrast, if Paterson possessed a shred of statesmanship–or even political acumen (google the term, Humanist)–he would announce that he will not run for election in 2010, but will rather devote all his energy and remaining time in office to putting New York on the road to fiscal responsibility. He might even spare his party a bit of spilled blood.
