As word comes that the group of investors who won/bought the Statler at auction have rescued the sale, I learn from Howard Goldman via Facebook that a huge chunk of Statler fell to the ground on Delaware Avenue tonight.
Had it happened just a few hours earlier, it could have been tragic.
And we ought to again thank Bashar Issa again for so lovingly caring for this local treasure.
Guess it didn’t appreciate being sold off earlier in the day.
that building been dropping chunks way before anyone ever heard of Bashar Issa so please find a new punching bag. lets pick on howard for buying buddies and selling all the spittoons!
I’m with Mike on this one. In fairness to Bashar, he left the building better than he found it. But unfortunately, the building left poor Bashar worse than when it found him.
Once the Unions get done shaking down the new owners, the city will end up having to demolish the damn place anyway. Total shame.
hanks right again, how can people want to make a living wage? Or why do workers care if they have to work in clouds of asbestos dust? Damn those workers for wanting a 40 hour work week!
How about demolishing this “historical architectural gem” and builting something better. To all you history buffs, who is goint to pay to “save” this POS building. I work nearby, and I’d like to be save from being stoned to death. Grow up people. It is time to move on and demolish this place,
Mike—an unskilled laborer doesn’t need to make 20.00/hr. If you want to make that kind of money, go to school and learn a trade. Betcha you don’t make 20.00 an hour or anything close to it.
Nobody said anything about asbestos dust. We’re talking about the Laborers Union telling Issa he needed to hire union laborers at 20.00/hr. So now NOBODY’s working on the Statler—That’s good for everyone all the way around, isn’t it.
Right, demolish the statler so we can build something. Perfect solution, especially since there are no vacant lots or sites anywhere else in the city that can be built upon…
Mike would prefer another surface parking lot—THATS what Buffalo needs more of.
pawel—Have you ever been IN the Statler? Who is going to save it? The way shit works up there, NOBODY. Government, Unions, the Mob, everyone’s gonna have their hand out. You’d have to be an idiot to try, even if you had the cash to do it with.
@ hank, your right “Betcha you don’t make 20.00 an hour or anything close to it.” i’m not even close, what a tool !
Hank – I said I want that place demolished. I work nearby. I am not impress with this eyesore.
