Vicious Gangs of Medians

21 Nov

There’s been a spate of incidents on the renovated Main Street where undisciplined, brutal gangs of medians have jumped out in front of various vehicles.

This is reminiscent of, among other things, the vicious gangs of keep left signs that attacked unsuspecting pedestrians in Bolton, UK in the early 70s.

They forgot to install an irrigation system. Hee Hee.

Silly city. Don’t those guys go to trade shows to learn about this stuff?

This is hilarious. On the first design go around NYSDOT proposed opening up Main Street to 40 MPH traffic with six lanes and no parking to ensure there was minimal restriction of movement between the UB campuses and the Medical Corridor.

Traffic and urban folk at every level were horrified at the prospect of this traffic that would threaten the existing businesses from Kenmore Avenue South, eliminate any sort of climate that pedestrians or bicyclist could endure and overall would not result in any tangible benefits to anyone who was not in a hurry. The medians are supposed to slow traffic, allow safe havens for pedestrians crossing the street and develop more of a parkway atmosphere rather than expressway to the roadway.

Even with all those traffic signals and medians to slow traffic in the area I have witnessed incredibly stupid driving of jerks who speed beyond any safe standards, shift lanes unsafely and even as that sad death testifies last year, running red lights to hurry to the next red light.

The medians and increased accident rates are the direct result of unsafe drivers who defy logic and any human decency to threaten the rest of us with stupidity. NYSDOT should put pedestals on the medians and mount the wrecks on those as warnings to future fools.

This blog should install a time-saving “Like This” button.
