Quick Saturday Thoughts

6 Feb

1. It is fundamentally unfair that for the past few winters, the east coast has been battered by one or two bad Nor’easters while Buffalo has gotten a smattering of snow here and there.

2. Governor Ravitch?

Re item #2: I hear that some of the “background” on that story is courtesy of staff of the Attorney General. The knives are already sharpened.

Wonder if the Guv’s staff will be reminding the press of the $59 billion unaccounted for under the aegis of the HUD Secretary in 1999–and the price Inspector General Susan Gaffney paid for exposing it.

    Thuggery abounds–get used to it.

Item #2: An old rumor is that Obama appoints Patterson to a job to get him out of the way. Then we get an appointed Governor just as Judge Pigott warned us.

RE Governor Ravitch? – What are they putting in the water in Albany? Maybe we could bottle it and sell it.

We are in the midst of the incredible affects of climate change and all established weather patterns are meaningless. I watched the development of the two jet streams the other day and just wondered at all the unusal configurations we have ben witness to in the past month.
We had one gigantic high parked over newfoundland for a week or so and that funneled true arctic air into our midst. Tenty years ago our worse winters storms were the Saskatchewan Screamers that were puled into WNY by way ot the “W,” jet stream. I don’t think I have seen that configuration for a couple of years. Now we are at the mercy of either el Nino or La Nina and weather determination is done in huge movements of lows and highs.
We keep adding to the greenhouse load and the weather is just going to respond to the atificial heat this produces. McKibben and others talk about 2050 being a critical year. Going by the past winter I bet we have some mighty, mighty changes by 2020.
Don’t look for old predictors either. Lake Erie Ice was much made of last week. But if the winds are Northeasterly and last week Northwesterly Lake Ontario will provide all the moisture any decent storm would want.

Does anyone stay in context here?
