Insanely great, the thing that is truly frightening is not that Glenn Becks speaks sans facts, it’s that crowds like that lap that stuff up like thirsty puppies.

That last segment very accurately depicts a society that libertarians could only dream of.

  3. STEEL February 25, 2010 at 12:48 pm #

I have always thought that we should stop “progressing”

  4. jesse February 25, 2010 at 1:18 pm #

JFC. If you guys really think that progressivism is, as J Stew says, taxing the people by the government to pay for things that they government thinks is “for the common good” you haven’t been paying attention to what the government has been paying for.

Sure, Beck is spastic at best, but gee… we don’t agree with his points, let’s “humorously” pick on him. That’ll sure change the minds of his listeners!

  5. Mike February 25, 2010 at 3:30 pm #

You should be happy Beck is calling you “Progressives” instead of the unpopular term “Liberal” or my personal favorite “Statist.” Either way, property confiscation for the collective is wrong no matter what the funny clowns think…

    • STEEL February 25, 2010 at 3:33 pm #

Only right wingnuts thing Liberal or should I say LLLibrrrrrl is a bad thing to be called.

      • Mike February 25, 2010 at 3:39 pm #

Polls support my point, it is considered by most to be a negative term. Make a list of the politicains that have bragged about being a Liberal compared to the many who have proudly declared themselves “Modern Progressives.”

      • STEEL February 25, 2010 at 3:47 pm #

And now, as shown here, the right wingnuts are trying to make “progress” into a bad word.

      • Mike February 25, 2010 at 4:10 pm #

Wrong. Conservatives are naming those of a specific political philosophy as opposed to just name calling. (teabaggers, wingnuts, etc.)

      • Chris from OP February 25, 2010 at 4:32 pm #

And if you repeatedly saw “sunshine,” “rainbows” and “self-described Kindergartners” with the same sneering tone that “liberal” is growled¬†on TV, eventually those words will take on negative connotations and will go out of style, despite their benign definitions.

Symantics… where the rational explains the emotional.

    Mocking “progress” IS “wingnutty”

    • Mike February 25, 2010 at 5:48 pm #

More like mocking Progressives… George Orwell writes about how there is a difference.

      • STEEL February 25, 2010 at 6:03 pm #

        ‘progressive
Definition: a person who favors a political philosophy of progress and reform and the protection of civil liberties.’

Sounds like something we absolutely need to be against. It must be mocked and compared to cominismm.

      • Mike February 25, 2010 at 6:16 pm #

Just because progress is in Progressive (and in your cited definition) does not make it progressive (Definition: moving forward; advancing). Progressives support an active government that controls society. You support that concept, I do not. I am an individual.

      • STEEL February 25, 2010 at 6:38 pm #

Actually it has been the conservatives actively trying to “control” society not the progressives or the Liberals. Progressives are not interested in proscribing people’s sex lives for example as the right wing is. Progressives have no interest in dictating others religion and as the definition states they are for civil liberties as opposed to the right which believes that people should be imprisoned and tortured if the president says so.

The basic tenet of the conservatives is that everything is fine how it is and that there is no possible way to improve anything – that is unless you can go back to the way it was in the 1950s. Hence the most broken down health care system in the developed world is described by the right as the best in the world and you must not believe in God if you don’t agree with us you damn comminits!

      • Mike February 25, 2010 at 6:51 pm #

I believe in the individual over collective, a balanced budget over good intentioned spending, and the Constituiton over activist government… I am a Conservative.

      • STEELE February 25, 2010 at 7:15 pm #

Too bad for you that no individual has accomplished anything without benefit of thecollective

      • Mike February 25, 2010 at 7:29 pm #

…and that is the fundamental difference in our philosophies, I believe that life is all about the rights and freedoms of the individual, you possibly believe that the individual exists for the benefit of the collective. As long as you and I can have a civil discussion in a free society life is good…

      • STEEL February 25, 2010 at 8:28 pm #

Like I said no individual has done anything of consequence without benefit of the collective. That is not opinion it is just plain fact. The collective exists to benefit the individual. Your belief is that you can shit on your neighbor as long as it pleases you. I believe that with my neighbor’s help we can clean up the shit.

      • Mike February 25, 2010 at 8:38 pm #

The most efficient way to help the collective is individual responsibilty… I will clean up my own s#&t, please don’t ask me to clean up yours.

      • STEEL February 25, 2010 at 9:41 pm #

Ok then you should stop flushing your toilet and stop using the roads and don’t call the fire department and don’t use the airpport and I don’t know what you are going to do with your garbage. Of course you will not be able to buy antything that is transported on public roads so maybe you will just need to grow your own food and make you own clothes…. You need to start doing all these things without the aid of anyone else if you really believe that you have this great gift to go it alone.

      • Mike February 25, 2010 at 9:52 pm #

The Federal Government’s role is defined in the Constitution. Toilets and garbage are another topic…

  7. STEEL February 25, 2010 at 9:34 pm #

The biggest welfare freeloader is the one who refuses to acknowledge the benefit he receives from the efforts of society as a whole. The disillusion that one individual is so special that nothing anyone else has done has aided their life is obnoxious.

    • Mike February 25, 2010 at 9:48 pm #

You have just crystallized Conservative thought… welfare freeloaders that refuse to acknowledge the benefits puts a strain on society and saps their own individuality. The disillusion that one individual is so special that they are entitled to the fruits of another’s labor is obnoxious. Welcome to conservative thought STEEL. Goodnight and sleep well, I wish you all the best…

      • STEELE February 25, 2010 at 10:07 pm #

Actually I was talking about you, but you knew that.

      • STEEL February 26, 2010 at 12:16 am #

        Rhetorically that is of course
