Also and Maybe

7 Mar

From Bob McCarthy’s column today:

• And speaking of [Harold] Ford’s withdrawal, the Tennessean has learned the same lesson as Rep. Steve Israel and others contemplating a challenge to Gillibrand — the Democratic powers-that-be said “no.”

I thought he learned the lesson that, “if you’re going to run for statewide office, it helps that you can say the campaign trail isn’t the very first time you’ve left the island of Manhattan since moving to New York a couple of years ago. Also, it helps if you’ve established your domicile in the state and paid state income taxes. Also, it helps if you’re not spouting nonsense and have an actual platform on which to run apart from, ‘I’m not that Northern woman from the sticks.’ Also, he probably learned that all of his anti-abortion talk from long ago to reassure his southern constituency doesn’t play quite as well in New York, where even a lot of Republicans are pro-choice.”

Or something.

Pure political folly. I would love to know who enticed him to attempt the run…

    Democratic powers that be?

HAHAHAHA! Ah HAHAHA! HO HO HO, that’s hilarious!

    WHAT Democratic powers that be?

The ones that can’t keep pigeon from handing the Senate to the Republicans?
The ones that can’t get Paterson to resign?
The ones who can’t get Tasini to step off?
The ones who couldn’t get Spitzer or Paterson to work with Silver or Smith, or, for that matter, get Silver and Smith to work together?
The ones who couldn’t prevent a Senate coup?

There’s at least 12 separate power bases in the NY Democratic party: Schumer, Silver, Smith, Obama, Paterson, Cuomo, Bronx Machine, Queens Machine, Manhattan Machine, Anthony Wiener, Steve Israel, and pigeon. Because they’re constantly warring instead of working together, none of them have any power (except probably Schumer).

Powers that be. Please. I worked in the system for 3 years. No power anywhere.

How the hell did anyone think you could sell an anti-abortion southern carpet bagger to the NYC Dem liberals who vote in NYS primaries? Gillibrand is vulnerable, but not to a loose wing nut like Ford. Whose idea was this candidacy?
