The Pushback

13 Apr

Let’s address some of the narratives that have popped up in the last 48 hours to defend or excuse the issues of Carl Paladino’s email forwards.

1. We are just being the PC police. The corrolary of this particular tack is that we, as revolutionary Marxists left liberals should be tolerant of – or otherwise embrace – the sending of sexually explicit or racist emails.

Which has become the bigger, more tired cliche? Political correctness, or accusing someone of political correctness? Seriously, PC is so 1980s. We have been a post-PC society for years now.

Because spreading around emails containing the “n” word, or forwarding a video of a woman having sex with a horse has nothing to do with whether it’s “politically correct”. It has to do with common decency. Any reaction to bestiality that doesn’t start with “nau” and end in “sea” calls a lot of things into question.

2. This is a Democratic smear campaign by the liberal media elites.

It’s rich when a guy with an estimated net worth of $150 million accuses a blog of being an “elite”. It’s hilarious when a guy who has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to political candidates accuses anyone of being a well-connected elite. The word smear implies that there’s falsity behind the accusation. The ACORN videos from 2009 were a smear job. This isn’t. Carl Paladino brought this on himself. He doesn’t deny sending them, and he admits that he did the email forwards because he found them to be funny.

3. Carl is only human – who among us hasn’t looked at weird stuff on the internet?

The internet is a rich wonderland of horse-on-woman sex and other really really awful crap. Some people go looking for it, others don’t. Paladino admits that he would forward along emails he thought were funny, that he thought the recipients would also find funny. I love a good joke, but I fail to find the humor in that. I haven’t watched two girls one cup, either.

4. This is a distraction from the underlying issues of cleaning up Albany.

On this we can all agree. The problem is this, however. The only credible candidate in the last generation who has actually spoken seriously about making structural, fundamental changes to Albany is Tom Suozzi, and he had the misfortune of running against the inevitable Governor Spitzer. Albany has been on a path towards its current dysfunction for years, and there is not one particular political party that is to blame – they are both, all, to blame. And what did candidate Paladino propose? Across the board tax and spending cuts. That’s swell, but that’s putting a Band Aid on an amputation.

5. Carl is being victimized.

Carl Paladino says that his HQ received a death threat or bomb threat yesterday, prompting the Ellicott Square Building to be evacuated. Without knowing more, we can take Paladino at his word on that point. That someone called in a bomb threat or death threat is somewhat unheard-of in this town, in this day and age, with respect to a political candidate, but let’s run with it. I am, however, equally inclined to believe that this is, as Liz Benjamin put it, Michael Caputo’s “upping the ante” strategy. The email issue won’t go away, so let’s (a) manufacture a distraction that will; (b) make Paladino seem like a victim. Sheer genius, I tell you.

“NEW YORK (Reuters) – The campaign headquarters of a Republican contender in the New York governor’s race received a bomb threat on Tuesday from a self-proclaimed black militant group, one day after racially charged e-mails sent by the candidate surfaced in the media.”

Wow…you guys have stirred up leftist terrorists from the sixties…

I find all this scandal mongering amusing. Many times it’s the pot calling the kettle black. ISSUES OF COURSE are on the backburner while the republican/democrat “gotcha” game is played out.

Now that you have spent a couple of days denigrating an imbecile, hows about you stop beating a dead horse and enlighten us with your enthusiatic and unimpeachible manifesto for the rejuvenation of the State.

The News: “Paladino’s campaign headquarters in Ellicott Square reported receiving the threat at about 12:35 p.m. Tuesday from a male claiming to be with a “black militant group” and threatening to “bomb all of you.”

The claim is that the caller actually said “I’m from a black militant group”, as opposed to “I’m from [insert name of known black militant group]”? Really?

What’s the penalty for calling in a phony bomb threat?

  5. Rob April 14, 2010 at 7:40 am #

Yes, that really is the claim:

“At 12:35 p.m. today an unidentified male called the campaign headquarters of gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino. In a 50 second conversation with a campaign volunteer the man identified himself as a representative of a “black militant group” and said his group would “bomb all of you.” After he was asked for the name of his group, he terminated the telephone call.”

I hope they give that campaign volunteer a polygraph.

The fact that WNYM seems SHOCKED!!! by a horsefucking video demonstrates that they missed this whole Internet thing when they were in college…….

    • Alan Bedenko April 14, 2010 at 8:53 am #

I didn’t get online until 3 years after I graduated college. So, you’re right! Kudos!

    • Eric Saldanha April 14, 2010 at 11:02 am #

Strange that you consider a normal rite of passage at college is to view (illegally, I might add) bestiality videos. Guess I didn’t go to the “right” school…

Alan: Is beastiality defined by NYS law as obscene? If that’s the case could a law enforcement agency use this as a pretext for searching Mr. Paladino’s computer? I wonder about all the interesting things that might be on there. What kind of porn does Mr. Paladino watch? What about his finances? It’s almost tax day and I’m sure the general public would like to know whether or not he’s sheltering his fair share of tax dollars…

NYS Penal Law S 235.05 Obscenity in the third degree.
A person is guilty of obscenity in the third degree when, knowing its content and character, he:
        1. Promotes, or possesses with intent to promote, any obscene material; or
        2. Produces, presents or directs an obscene performance or participates in a portion thereof which is obscene or which contributes to its obscenity. Obscenity in the third degree is a class A misdemeanor.

Obscenity is defined at s.235.00 as ” 1. “Obscene.” Any material or performance is “obscene” if (a) the average person, applying contemporary community standards, would find that considered as a whole, its predominant appeal is to the prurient interest in sex, and (b) it depicts or describes in a patently offensive manner, actual or simulated: sexual intercourse, sodomy, sexual bestiality, masturbation, sadism, masochism, excretion or lewd exhibition of the genitals, and (c) considered as a whole, it lacks serious literary, artistic, political, and scientific value. Predominant appeal shall be judged with reference to ordinary adults unless it appears from the character of the material or the circumstances of its dissemination to be designed for children or other specially susceptible audience.”

Promote is defined as “to manufacture, issue, sell, give, provide, lend, mail, deliver, transfer, transmute, publish, distribute, circulate, disseminate, present, exhibit or advertise, or to offer or agree to do the same.”

The sad part is people are still supporting Carl, look at his facebook page and people are stupid. Look campaign strategedies right on the page..”Michael Panisch Carl I am a real estate appraiser with some valuable insite into Cuomo’s Home Valuation Code of Conduct. This could blow the lid of his compaign and would be a great story for you. Feel free to call me Michael 203-268-7976.
    Mon at 16:20 · Report”

It’s right there for everyone to see, if this what he is talking about when he said “cuomo is going down” then he isn’t being too secretive with his plans is he?

  8. Charlie April 14, 2010 at 2:15 pm #

Ok you libertarian assholes. Yes, the general public is shocked about a major, tea party political candidate watching, forwarding, and probably nutting off to authentic beastiality pornography. The national tea party realizes how abhorrent is man like this is and they disassociated themselves from him. Beastiality is condemned by virtually every major religion and virtually every mainstream moral code in the world. It is as condemned as an act as morally heinous and disreputable as incest. This is your chance MICHAEL REBMANN, JAMES OSTROWSKI, MICHAEL WALSH, RUS THOMPSON to show the public that the four of you are not crazy fucking lunatic perverts and do the right thing by distancing yourself from Carl Pervert Paladino. He’s a fucking pervert. Got it? The national tea party has done it. The GOP has done it. Either get with the program or endorse a perverted candidate and become perverts yourselves. I saw someone on that J.O.’s blog call this adult humor. Endorsing Paladino and calling beastiality adult humor that is not “mutually exclusive” from family values makes you look like sick perverts yourselves.

  9. Rob April 14, 2010 at 3:20 pm #

Yeah good luck with that Charlie. The horse porn – and the “Run Ni66ers Run” “joke” – are just “adult humor”, and liberals are the real racists. They’re psychopaths, and it’s a waste of time trying to argue with them.

  10. Mike Walsh April 16, 2010 at 12:34 am #

    @ charlie:

    “authentic beastiality pornography”
No it’s not. Fake videos of animal/human porn go back many years.

“This is your chance MICHAEL REBMANN, JAMES OSTROWSKI, MICHAEL WALSH, RUS THOMPSON to show the public that the four of you are not crazy fucking lunatic perverts and do the right thing by distancing yourself from Carl Pervert Paladino.

Charlie, who brought these images into public view? Who’s feigning shock and outrage but had no qualms about posting this stuff for everyone to see? I can tell you, having worked at many job sites as an IT vendor, I’ve seen tons of this stuff. It puzzles me why people get a kick out of this but look at all the garbage on your thousand cable channels. 95% of it is perverse in a lot of different ways.

That said, the only thing we have endorsed concerning Paladino is his general message of attacking the entrenched interests in Albany.
