Facts Are Fun

29 May

The local tea party die-hards (the NYS Reform google group keyboard warriors) and wannabes (Tom Bauerle – a third-rate copy of humorous, real-life tough-guy Curtis Sliwa) have been reacting (as reactionaries do) to news that there will be some extra scrutiny of travelers at US-Canada border crossings.

That is, when they’re not suggesting that ID cards for guest workers under a proposed immigration reform program would be the “mark of the beast” as foretold in Revelations.

Conveniently forgetting that it was a competent customs official at a US-Canada crossing in Washington that halted the LAX millenium bombing during the Clinton Administration, the tea partiers complain – why should shoppers be asked questions at border crossings while the Mexican border is completely wide open? Bauerle went so far as to say one would be called racist for suggesting that the Mexican border be protected.

The Border Patrol watches for illegal crossers between the US and Canada, though, on a quite regular basis. Anyone living in WNY has seen Border Patrol vehicles and choppers from time to time.

Legal crossings between Mexico and the US are very frequent – especially for American managers who commute daily to maquiladora plants in Mexican border towns – and the questioning and scrutiny there is much more stringent than on the US-Canada border.

The Border Patrol is a branch of the U.S. Customs & Border Protection service operating under the Office of Border Protection.

The guys in the booths who ask to see your ID work for the Office of Field Operations, a completely different service of U.S. Customs & Border Protection.

In other words, it’s apples and oranges. Life is more fun when people know what the hell they’re talking about.

My brother told me recently he had to forgo a fishing trip to Canada because the guy he was going to go with got a cardiac stress test. I asked if his heart was on the fritz, but he said no, the radioactive chemical used would show up on sensors installed on the US side of the border.

Apparently another of his friends, a volunteer fireman went to Canada after having a PET scan, and the vehicle he was in was surrounded by 9 agents with automatic weapons from US Homeland Security.on their return through the Peace bridge. The 4 firemen were detained and interviewed twice each, and their car was torn apart looking for terrorist atomic weapons, until the guy remembered his Cancer Radio-scan. They were then released

Meanwhile, on the Mexico/AZ border, human smggling is a boom business, the coyotes hold the illegals for ransom, abuse and threaten them, and liberals care not a whit.
I thought liberals would think the human rights abuses associated with human smuggling would want them to stop ILLEGAL entry into the country

Those not brought by coyotes are escorted in many cases by the Mexican Drug Cartels, toting in grass, black tar heroin and cocaine.

I care not to disparage the BP, but perhaps it is your proximity to the northern border that has captivated the focus of those in WNY, and they think not about the swarm of human cockroaches coming over the border daily.

My thought: is dems/libs see every illegal as a potential amnesty candidate and a future democratic line vote.

My solution: The Congress adapt the Mexican Immigration rules as our own. Illegales would slow to ZERO on both of our land borders.

If you get a stress test, your doctor asks you here if you’re going to go to Canada and gives you a note to present to the border agents. The same thing happens on the Mexico border.

I don’t understand where you get this:

I thought liberals would think the human rights abuses associated with human smuggling would want them to stop ILLEGAL entry into the country

I don’t have a problem with halting illegal immigration. With respect to the Arizona statute in the news lately, its problem is that it requires Latino US citizens to carry proof of citizenship at all times for domestic travel. That is patently unconstitutional, and everyone conveniently ignores that.

I’m waiting for the President to travel to Arizona and the birther-nuts insist on having the police check his ID
