Darwin Martin House Funding (Not) at Risk UPDATED

30 Jul

UPDATE: The Flake Amendment was defeated in the House last night 165 – 258. To his credit, Chris Lee voted “Nay”. Now, call and thank him at (202) 225-5265.

Tonight, the House is expected to take up an appropriations bill including $1 million for Buffalo’s Darwin Martin House, which is nearing its final restoration phase. Republican Jeff Flake of Arizona has introduced an amendment to strip that funding from the bill. Of the local delegation, both Representatives Higgins and Slaughter intend to not just vote against Flake’s amendment, but also to take to the floor to defend federal funding to restore a national treasure – Frank Lloyd Wright’s Darwin Martin House..

As of right now, no one knows how Chris Lee will vote – with the Republicans, or whether he will instead vote to defend a WNY institution. Since Rep. Lee loves communicating by phone, call and find out! (202) 225-5265.

The same Higgins who voted earlier in the week to strip $14.3 million in funding from Buffalo?

I guess no matter how Lee votes, he can always just say did not know the funding for the Martin House was involved and that he just made a mistake.

Maybe people should call Lee to tell him to vote for this fine project and call Higgins to tell him he is a fucking moron.

If the Darwin Martin House gets one more god damned penny of public money, I’m suing.

The national debt is $13,252,178,994,591.87, what’s another $1,000,000.00 gonna matter?

Nothing like hypebole, Darwin Marin house a “WNY institution” and a “national treasure.” I happened to go by it early this evening and it appeared vacant. ROI on this cultural tourism will be a long time coming.

    Jay,
The Martin House should appear vacant – they moved out 80 years ago. And the house did vote to retain the Martin House money in the budget – sorry!

Plunder and redistribute, an occupation that takes up 95% of the time in congress. Like a gang of bank robbers divvying up the loot. Some people think this is the proper function of government and cheer them on. WTF!

JFC, any of you dopes you thought they’d actually ACCEPT an amendment to strip some funding out of something are… dopes.

Good job falling for that little hype machine, Alan. It does provide a real helpful demonstration of why “good government” is a joke of a concept, however. Take the little “OMG CALL CONGRESS!” worryworting here and apply it to something that actually matters to people, and you know why the growth of government is unstoppable.
