A Walking Hypocrisy

15 Oct

Adam Serwer wraps up Paladino nicely:

…a wealthy, hypocritical homophobe who wants to legislate “family values” while having a kid out of wedlock, talks up fiscal prudence while getting millions in government subsidies, and chuckles at racist jokes with his friends, he’s what liberals would come up with if they were trying to paint a nasty, reductive caricature of what conservatives are really like.

There are a metric ass-load of men like that in America – everywhere I’ve been. They are business owners, golf players, social club members (places with names after large forest animals or something that sounds like the nickname for New Zealanders…).

The problem you have is that they’re not evil, just ethnocentric. Gays make them uncomfortable, and anyone who doesn’t pay lip service to going to church isn’t to be trusted.

There are millions of them. They have a great deal of influence over your world. Your only hope is time, because they’re not going away.
