Carl Paladino’s Halloween Drunktacular

31 Oct

While Andrew Cuomo was in Monroe County rallying supporters and actually campaigning, Carl Paladino was having himself a helluva time at South Buffalo watering hole, Potter’s Field.  The bar, just down the block from Carl’s house is one of his favorite places to grab a beer and hang out with his core constituents; zombies.

Several correspondents on the scene (including the person who submitted the pictures to us) report that Carl was pretty well lubricated and enjoyed spending time with another core constituency, guys in blackface.

We’re not saying that Carl knew the guy in blackface nor supports people dressing in blackface, but, COME ON! Stop making it so god damned easy for everyone.

Unlike his last time out on the town, Carl did not insult any burlesque dancers by asking to “see their p#ssy” or throw around gay epithets.  So, he has that going for him, which is nice.

I think the guy’s growing up; he’ll soon be of a maturity level to rush a fraternity.

Hey, I’m not a Paladino supporter by any stretch, but isn’t the “guys in blackface” comment kind of presumptuous? We don’t know what that guy behind him in the 2nd photo is really dressed as. Looks like “red and black” to me.

“Hey, isn’t this Roxys? Where are all the crazy broads at?”

I’m not convinced that guy is in blackface unless he’s trying to be Jimmy McMillan and the beard fell off…

  5. Tom Dolina November 1, 2010 at 1:34 am #

    McMillan would be my guess…

Not a guy in blackface, just another victim of the Brazilian Blowout.

Potters Field is NOT in South Buffalo, it’s in West Seneca.

Give the man credit: he’s about to get his ass handed to him on a silver platter (after forcing perennial whipping boy Rick Lazio out of the race), so he’s not giving a damn about propriety and he’s being himself.

Sometimes I wonder if Cuomo actually recruited him to run…

I don’t know, seeing Crazy Carl out partying on Halloween kind of makes me like him.

My first thought about the “blackface” guy was Charlie Rangel, who I’d think would be a good costume in New York. Is it completely off-limits to dress up as a person of a different race than you?

If Republicans were capable of being embarrassed by their choices in candidates, this certainly would be one. Is he going to moon the supporters at his rally tomorrow too?

Great reporting !! ( That’s sarcasm by the way, ) I actually expected to see Paladino posing with someone in Blackface. Imagine my surprise when I viewed the photo and saw this instead. Paladino clearly has one arm around the girl without the glasses and one around “zombie” guy. All are in the foreground, while Mr. Blackface (If that’s what it is,) steps into the picture from behind. I don’t care for Paladino, however , I care for this type of hit job even less….I hope you have more pictures that this.

I am voting for Paladino tomorrow. I cannot pull the lever for a guy who helped create the housing mess.

Good point Greg, I saw a McMillan costume but the guy was white and stayed that way for his getup. SNL and other ‘professional” comedy people can get away with it, but it doesn’t seem to apply to the rest of us. That said, if I was McMillan for Halloween, I’d go in “blueface”, as he is affectionately known as Papa Smurf. In any event, probably not good for a Gubernatorial candidate to be seen with such possible caricatures, but even without that dude in the picture, Paladino’s “O” face is disturbing…

I’m an African American who’ve seen my share of offensive black faced individuals. This photo appears to be a man dressed for halloween. I think had he donned an afro wig, then it would have been clear that he’s mocking black people. There are very few black people with striaght hair so you would not use that image for offense, just as you would not use a biege face for offense even though there are millions of black people who are that complextion.

No longer a NYS voter–I left 4 years ago. I don’t like this guy, but it almost seems like he’s trying to destroy himself. His behavior is bizarre. I feel a little bad for him. I hope that he has a family who will support him in his loss, and maybe get him some help.

  19. The "Zombie" in the picture November 2, 2010 at 10:41 am #

I am the zombie in the picture. Christopher Smith is a liar. No one e-mailed him these pictures. They were taken from my facebook account. Paladino was not drunk. I repeat NOT DRUNK. He was drinking water. When the picture was taken he was in the middle of saying rent is too high. He said this because the guy with the black face paint was dressed as Jimmy Mcmillian. So Mr. Smith you should get your facts straight before you post garbage like this article. Again, I was there I was in the picture, and no I am not a Paladino supporter but unlike Mr. Smith I am not out to slander the guy either.

@The Zombie – We did not take these photos from your Facebook page, I have no idea who you are. The photos were sent to us by a source who claimed to be at the bar on Sunday night. He gave us two people to speak with to confirm his account of events and that is what we did. The story checked out. If you’re telling a different story, well, we’ve given you the opportunity to do so in the comments section here. We’ll let the readers decide.

Also, I apologize that your comment from last night at 11PM or so was in moderation. This is the first time you’ve commented and, by default, first time commenters wait for an approval for publication. I didn’t check the queue until this morning.

People can’t copy pictures off Facebook and send them in emails? Who knew?

  20. Kbecker November 2, 2010 at 4:05 pm #

i think the most important question is , Alan, did you take a still of one time you were on tv to use for your profile pic? Media whore 🙂

Not only that, Kristen – but the Chyron reads “Political Expert”.

Terrible reporting, or I should really say blogging.  According to Christopher Smith, “The photos were sent to us by a source who claimed to be at the bar on Sunday night. He gave us two people to speak with to confirm his account of events and that is what we did.”  So if that is the case, then did he bother to confirm what the “blackface” guy’s costume was with the people who confirmed the accounts of these events?  Or is he just assuming that it is “blackface” to promote racism himself?  I assume the latter since he gives no indication of even coming close to knowing what the costume in question was.  Seems on one hand he says he has confirmation but instead it looks like rumor and speculation.  If the costume can’t even be confirmed then why believe anything else in the article?  Besides, are we that crazy as a society where our halloween costumes have to be the same race as the person wearing them?  This is just more biased partisan reporting that gets us nowhere.

  23. Girl in the picture November 2, 2010 at 8:22 pm #

Zombie- Thanks for speaking up, I didn’t have the time to deal with this nonsence!
Ed- I couldn’t agree more. Christopher lied in this article and then continued to lie when he was called out on it. I was there that night, these pics were taken from my camera. They were on our facebook page. After Christopher took my picture without my permission to creat this false article, he then had the nerve to ask to be my friend on facebook!!!

  24. Chris Smith November 3, 2010 at 9:16 am #

I most certainly did not ask to be your friend on Facebook, I still have no idea who either of you are.

I did not lie in the article nor continue to lie “once called out”, I have no reason to believe that either of you are who you say you are. I received photos by email from a person claiming to have been in the bar. I contacted two other sources in the bar that night for confirmation that it was indeed at Potter’s Field, that Carl was drunk and that the man in costume was actually in blackface. We had THREE sources claiming all of that to be true.

I stand by the story, I will not retract the story and I have given two people the opportunity to give an opposing viewpoint in the comments even though I am unable to verify who they are. I feel we have been more than fair.
