When all the election excitement is done lets face it the Senate races are pretty meaningless as far as WNY is concerned. Once a senator gets elected it has always been a lifetime post until they decide to get a life and run for something else.
I think Thompsons narrow defeat was the multiple mistakes he piled up at the end. He just wrecked any image of competence he had achieved earlier in his office. He was very unusual by sponsoring and getting controversial bills passed. Most of our Senators keep very low profiles and hope that nobody notices they are a minor part of the the Three Men in the Room syndrome.
The last time anyone tried to change that dynamic they were promptly disappeared for several years and couldn’t even get on a committee of any consequence.
Don’t worry that downstate gang will continue to let an occasional crumb our way. That is If we remain good and quiet.

I think Hap’s mostly right, but in this case, Grisanti is a R in SOLID D territory, and there’s no doubt “the machine” will have a major backed candidate next time to get that seat back in the blue. Grisanti is going to have to be one hell of a senator to get reelected.

And this gives me a tiny bit of foolish hope.

I have long believed that the only good Republican I ever saw was dead, but Thompson’s arrogance and stupidity (I mean he really is a bubblehead) pushed me to Grisanti. Let’s see what he does.

Antoine was brought down because he ignored history’s original sin: hubris. He believed he was too powerful and untouchable. He thought he could pay the Niagara Falls absentee landlord/billionaire a pile of money and nobody would notice; He thought he could be a bag man for downstate interests and nobody would care; He used our tax dollars to print a glossy book about himself; He drove around in a black SUV with thugs as bodyguards like some movie crime boss. Did he think he was Tony Montana in Scarface? Did he think the voters liked that sort of behavior? His movie is over. Thank you Jesus!

@Brian—An old Irishman once said “ONLY A PEA WIT JUDGES BY THE GROUP”. So happy 2011, Mr Pea Wit.

Thompson was just the most disgraceful democrat in a state filled with disgraceful democrats. He’ll probably be come an analyst on Parker/SPITZER.

    What excites me the most?

John Bohener getting the gavel from Pelosi, announcing the Taxpayer Paid Pelosi Express Jet will no longer be flying to San Fran every weekend (he flies commercial), then telling her to sit her old, crusty, communist ass down on the floor, broom optional.

A lot of people have fond memories of high school. But I was glad to leave all that pissy-petty name-calling behind. Or so I thought.

please make the voting more open to us republican’s, have a fill in the blank choice. But wait, blank does rhyme with hank.

Shorter Hank: Come on, Limbaugh Party, hurry up and start acting against my interests because they take a backseat to my namecalling!

Shorter Hank: I get excited by a colored Bo[eh]ner

Despite all this know how in these blogs, Grisanti, was funded and advised by the West Side Democratic Machine and is a lifelong Democrat. There may be circumstances that would warrant his switching parties if the wind blows that way.
I am still amused by all that brooha over Thompson’s getting Millstein that $400,000.¬†
Millstein and Company have sat on over 400 acres in downtown Niagara Falls for over 20 years. I bet that token money was a key to the vault. In any case it was the first time Millstein has ever acknowledged the holdings.
Grisanti is opening a District Office in the Falls ( I thought Republicans were closing District Offices) and we will see what a freshman Senator from the frontier gets now. I am sure he and George Maziarz will be cuddly.
Maziarz just loves sharing power and glory with West Side Democrats, especially Giambra.

Ha, Hank, my right wing dad sent me the Pelosi’s Jet forward too! http://myrightwingdad.blogspot.com/2008/12/fw-nancy-pelosis-jet.html

@hapklein — Grisanti is moving the NF office for that Senate seat to the LaSalle section of the city. ¬†Thompson had an office on Main St., I think, but the local rag said Grisanti’s new space will be less expensive.
