Maelstrom: Mallia Out

1 Jun

The phenomenal anti-Collins Republican Maelstrom blog is reporting that Michael L. Mallia, the Republican Fonzie / Jane Corwin Assembly Chief of Staff is resigning his post.

Corwin will wear her weak defense of Mallia for many months and will endure the whispers of other Assemblymen and women behind her back. They all know that a Chief of Staff of a sitting Assemblywomen does not quit at 5 o’clock as Corwin claimed. A Chief of Staff must be available at all hours, as the Assemblywoman and other elected state officials are. Not to mention the fact Mallia was obviously working for Corwin and her campaign when the video was recorded otherwise Langworthy would not have immediately posted it on the official Republican Party YouTube website.

Had this happened on or about May 12th, after Mallia’s video ricocheted back into her campaign’s face, Corwin may have had a better shot in the special election.

Now? the video has been removed from the ECGOP YouTube stream. Only people who have the code can view it. What was once a source of excitement and pride is now a symbol of utter failure.

Any guesses as to where the Fonz will turn up next? I’m sure this isn’t the last we’ve seen of him.

Gotta chime in…I have met with Mallia in the past on a lobbying issue and found him to be quite intelligent but yes, as we all saw, pretty young and green…and I guess impressionable. Don’t blame him for this act, blame the folks who threw him under the bus.

  3. Still Republican? June 1, 2011 at 9:28 am #

My guess, Erie County Board of Elections.

  4. Eric G June 1, 2011 at 11:24 am #

The title of the Maelstrom blog post should have been “Mallia: A Sucker of the Collins Animal House”

  5. Ward June 1, 2011 at 11:47 am #

Nothing yet on “Weinergate”? Oh, right–that’s a Democrat.

    • Alan Bedenko June 1, 2011 at 12:10 pm #

Weinergate? How off-topic and unproven! (Yet Mallia’s camcorder skillz are quite proven, as was Chris Lee’s shirtless tranny hunting).

  6. Dave Staba June 1, 2011 at 12:55 pm #

Phew. I was worried that, after soiling his reputation as a political prognosticator in such spectacular fashion during the run-up to May 24, Ward had decided to give up clumsily trolling for good. And it’s reassuring to see the arbiters of morality getting themselves so aroused over a picture of covered male genitalia.

Apparently, the Andrew /bad polling/troll circle jerk is over for today.

  8. Kevin J. June 1, 2011 at 1:15 pm #

Make that: “Apparently, the Andrew Breitbart/bad polling/troll circle jerk is over for today.”

  9. Bbill June 1, 2011 at 2:15 pm #

    Poor Ward.

This may lend some insight into what motivated serial liar Breitbart to conduct his clumsy attempt at a sting operation:

    Weinergate off-topic and unproven?

Why was there an election in NY-26? Pervy pix by the incumbent on the web.

Unproven? Today Mr. Weiner (that’s pronounced “WEE-ner”) told ABC News he “says he ‘cannot say with certitude’ whether or not the photo of a man in gray boxer briefs posted to his Twitter account Friday night is him.”
    http://blogs.abcnews.com/thenote/2011/06/anthony-weiner-cannot-say-with-certitude-hes-not-subject-of-twitter-photo.html

Again–nothing to see here folks (D-NY).

  11. Bbill June 1, 2011 at 4:03 pm #

    Poor Ward.

Nothing about Clarence Thomas’ (R-Koch) outrageous conflict of interest and the clear fact that he must recuse himself immediately.

    Nope, just weiners.

What is it about right-wingers anyway.

  12. Chris Charvella June 1, 2011 at 4:38 pm #

Republicans love to talk about Weiners.

Anyway Ward, there was a special election because Chris Lee resigned. He didn’t have to, he just did. Personally, I don’t care about anyone’s weiner but my own.

If it turns out he’s been lying though, count me as first in line to say mean things about him.

Weiner pics: No big deal. Lying about things: Big deal.

  13. mark June 1, 2011 at 5:07 pm #

of course its totally okay for a member of the United States House of Representatives to send a picture of his erection to a college student, what the hells a matter with you? then, when asked about this classy manuever, deny, tell multiple stories, scream, call people jackasses but most definitely don’t resign and schlep off to explain to your wife and children. as dumb as chris lee was he did the honorable thing. I absolutely love the hypocrisy on display

  14. Eric Saldanha June 1, 2011 at 5:21 pm #

Ward – Let me start by giving you credit that humilty in the face of being exposed (numerous times) as a thigh-rubbing cretin is just not in your DNA. Cheers.

I know you’re having a sad that “Weinergate” is not being given the same gravitas, attention or credibility as ex-Rep. Lee’s Craigslist adventures, but these two “scandals” aren’t even remotely in the same ballpark. For one, Rep. Weiner’s Twitter account was hacked and the picture in question was sent by someone else, not Rep. Weiner. He can’t definitively say that’s not him in the picture because he doesn’t reflexively lie, like most Republicans in D.C.

Next, Andrew Breitbart cranked up the Right Wing Wurlitzer Machine on this and, as in all the previous Breitbart enterprises, this one blew up in his face. I wouldn’t trust Breitbart if he told me the sky was blue.

Lastly, Jon Stewart (the Representative’s friend in college) says that ain’t his junk and that’s good enough for me.

  15. Eric Saldanha June 1, 2011 at 5:53 pm #

Oh, and one more thing…Gawker actually spent weeks investigating the claims against Lee before they published the story. Breitbart vomited this trash about Rep. Weiner on his site with nary a question.

  16. Chris Charvella June 1, 2011 at 6:12 pm #

@mark, you’re talking like you’re sure that’s Weiner’s weiner. Do you know something the rest of us don’t?

I’ve said it before, if it turns out Weiner is lying, I’ll be in the front row at the crucifixion, promise.

  17. Buffalo Rude June 1, 2011 at 6:41 pm #

I think Ward just likes talking about wiener. Make of that what you will.

  18. Pericles June 1, 2011 at 7:27 pm #

Ward, I actually agree with you that Weinergate should be covered, but it’s probably best left to the national media/ NYC media/blogs. If you haven’t noticed this site is called WNYmedia, not NYCmedia. When you post something that is just barely tangentially connected to the topic you don’t further the discussion and come off as a person blinded by partisanship.

  19. Bbill June 1, 2011 at 7:30 pm #

Ward — who do you like in the Belmont Stakes on June 11? Your record as a prognosticator speaks for itself and your insight here can be quite valuable. Thanks in advance.

  20. Carl June 1, 2011 at 8:17 pm #

Oh, it’ll be valuable all right…

as in who NOT to put your money on!

  21. Ward June 1, 2011 at 10:35 pm #

Lee sends topless photo — quits.
Weiner Twitters his wiener to co-ed — stays (at least per this blog.)

Craig plays footsie in the john — quits.
Barnie Frank has Mr. “Hot Bottom” run a prostitution ring out of their apartment — still here two decades later.

Mark Foley texts naughty nothings to underage house page — quits. Gerry Studds has anal sex with underage House page — stays for another decade and a half.

“Mr. Bbill, have you Dems no sense of decency sir, at long last?”

  22. Buffalo Rude June 2, 2011 at 12:28 am #

Ward, I think your obsession with Rep. Anthony Weiner’s dick has distorted your recollection of history (and also says more about you than anyone else). Lee resigned because he knew the tranny solicitations were soon to follow; Craig didn’t “quit” after pleading guilty to soliciting anonymous gay oral sex in an airport restroom – he retired at the end of his term (with the tacit blessing of the GOP). And Foley, using instant messaging technology, asked 16 year old Congressional pages about the status of their erect penises and how they stroked said penises.

Whatevs, Ward, IOKIYAR and I’m pretty sure you love and lust after cock. Probably Rep. Weiner’s cock now, as he appears to be hung like a horse.

  23. Ward June 2, 2011 at 7:32 am #

Yeah, you got it pegged, rude. Contributing the same level of class on this blog as on the “D” side of the aisle in the House. We’ll see what joys today brings to Mr Weener.

  24. Dave Staba June 2, 2011 at 7:48 am #

See, Ward, there’s this thing called the Internet. It allows you to research basic facts quickly before embarrassing yourself in a public forum. For instance, it took me about eight seconds to confirm my recollection that the Senator you so admire did initially resign after pleading guilty, then recanted both the plea and resignation. I doubt you can find this information on Breitbart, though, so I’ll link it for you here: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/09/26/politics/main3301650.shtml

Craig wound up remaining in the Senate for a year-and-a-half after the initial arrest, sticking to his ‘wide stance’ excuse to the end. So much for your ‘Taking it like a Republican’ theory.

  25. Bbill June 2, 2011 at 8:23 am #

Meanwhile the real story is that the Aetna crime syndicate has a bought-and-paid-for Supreme Court Justice to do its bidding. (Not as though Roberts shouldn’t have more corporate logos on his robe than all the NAScars combined). But wingers, true to their nature, need to obsess about weiner.

  26. Rob June 2, 2011 at 8:39 am #

And don’t forget David Vitter, still in the Senate more than 3 years after it was revealed that he frequented prostitutes. He hasn’t even admitted that this was illegal.

  27. Ward June 2, 2011 at 10:09 am #

So, Dave–think Mr Weener will “stick it out”, so to speak, through the end of his current term, before declining to run for re-election like Larry Craig, or quit now like Chris Lee? Perhaps he could see if Sen. John Stennis is available to conduct an independent technical investigation (Google that to see if you can decipher the reference).

  28. Rob June 2, 2011 at 10:29 am #

Or just stay in office like Vitter?

  29. Bbill June 2, 2011 at 11:24 am #

    Ward, what’s your prediction?

  30. King Kong June 2, 2011 at 3:07 pm #

Bbill – Ward is the master of predictions. Having ‘accurately’ predicted the outcome of the NY-26 election with polling that was invisible to the rest of us, he will next call the County Executive’s race for Thomas Dewey.

  31. Ward June 2, 2011 at 3:16 pm #

I predict Weener will split with Hillary’s “body person” and will take up with the porn star with whom he has exchanged Twitter DMs.
    http://prudencepaine.com/2011/05/29/porn-star-says-weiner-sent-her-a-private-message/

BTW, Rob–does Barney Frank’s paying a male prostitute $80 for sex qualify as “frequenting prostitutes”, or is the infraction waived off when they move in together and Barney hosts his pimp business?

  32. Rob June 2, 2011 at 3:27 pm #

Even 6 months of hindsight doesn’t help Ward correctly pick the winner!

  33. Bbill June 2, 2011 at 8:07 pm #

    Uh oh

    http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/06/leaked_emails_show_tip_to_breitbart_about_weiner_t.php

When all is said and done, this is going to backfire on the perps and Weiner will benefit politically. But will Clarence Thomas’ over-the-top corruption be dealt with?

  34. MichaelRCaputo June 12, 2011 at 11:43 pm #

Not for nothing, but ten days later it looks like Breitbart was vindicated and Weiner is in it up to his neck, far more sleazy and guilty than any of us thought. The only perp was Weiner, who we know this weekend was even DMing an underage girl. I’ll also note that Pundit has condemned Weiner for lying about all this all along – but perhaps a few of the commenters here need to tip their hats to Ward somewhere along the way.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. But right is right.

    Just sayin’.

    • Alan Bedenko June 13, 2011 at 7:59 am #

True, but it was still wildly off-topic trolling.
