Weiner Open Thread

6 Jun

So today’s bizarre example of how not to do crisis management can be on-topic. More later, but smh.

he took it like a man and he’s not resigning, props to him!

  2. Kevin J. June 6, 2011 at 6:40 pm #

Having some experience in journalism, political communications and crisis, this was NOT the smart way for Weiner to handle the situation.

  3. Kevin J. June 6, 2011 at 6:42 pm #

I mean as in holding a wide-ranging, rambling news conference after his statement. Issue the statement, say something short and get the hell out of the camera shots. Plus, he should not have lied at first; that will be his downfall, if there is one.

  4. keller June 6, 2011 at 7:06 pm #

He took it like a man…lied repeatedly…strung along his supporters…had phone sex…lied some more….acted like a mega douche…lied some more…..  I suppose props are in order.

  5. keller June 6, 2011 at 7:15 pm #

    BTW…I love Weiner.

  6. Bbill June 6, 2011 at 7:21 pm #

    Hey Ward —

Last week I predicted this would work to Weiner’s benefit politically. I was wrong. It doesn’t hurt to admit that. It doesn’t hurt some people to admit that, that is.

Meanwhile in Ward World, Jane Corwin is basking in her Congressional honeymoon and the midnight ride of Paul Revere differs greatly from what we were taught as schoolchildren. But you may have been right about Mr. Weiner. As Bob Dylan says, how does it feel?

  7. Rob June 6, 2011 at 7:27 pm #

You’re a bigger man than Ward. But we knew that already.

  8. Bbill June 6, 2011 at 7:33 pm #

Nice to meet minimum standards, I suppose. 🙂

Meanwhile the real story continues to be CLARENCE THOMAS.

Really can’t wait to see people who defended Lee try to condemn Weiner for this and the ones who celebrated Lee resigning try and excuse Weiner’s actions….

Personally, I don’t give a shit what he does with his dick because it has zero effect anything but his dick but that’s what I said about Lee.

Also, at this point, if a congressional candidate came out during a campaign and said “I like sex and it has nothing to do with my work life” would anyone else be more inclined to vote for them as a result? It just seems so ridiculous to me that we eliminate qualified people from public service based on their sex lives. I wish someone would just own it and not let it destroy them.

As always, its about the lying (24 individual lies, per Salon’s count), not the crotch. Waiting for a Dem to tell me how this isn’t-the-same/as-bad/is-totally-false-equivalence as when Republicans do dumb shit.

Actually, upon further review, I’m not. Truth is, I couldn’t care less.

  11. TDS June 6, 2011 at 8:42 pm #

The fact: Weiner was a man who wasn’t ready for marriage, got married, and still acted like he was single. Then he had the audacity to lie about it– not only that, but to back off his lie and not stick to his story.

  12. Greg June 6, 2011 at 9:18 pm #

Dem here. This is the same. Better?

  13. mark June 6, 2011 at 9:53 pm #

bottom line: is this the type of person we want representing us? props to him? that says more about your lack of character than the weiner.

  14. RaChaCha June 6, 2011 at 10:21 pm #

So angry at this bastard when I heard the news and excerpts of the press conference. NOT RESIGNING?!?! WTF!! So he’s just going to put us, his staff, his family, NY, and Congress through how many more days of this nonsense?! What, he thinks that being old buds with John Stewart is going to save him–?

This dude needs to very quickly remember how to think with his correct head and GTF out of elected office — immediately, if not sooner. ASS.

  15. Ward June 6, 2011 at 10:49 pm #

Noting that Alan avoided expressly defending Mr Weener, having doubtless learned from the experience of declaring Eric Massa a “principled and honorable guy”, and being “saddened by the [bullshit] news that his cancer has returned”. One can detect a glimmer of realization in his silence.

It’s also nice to note that one can get spittle to spray from the mouth of Bbill before even posting on a thread.

  16. RaChaCha June 6, 2011 at 11:07 pm #

There’s already discussion that the Weiner District could get a multiple-Lorena Bobbit makeover:
    http://www.capitaltonight.com/2011/06/could-weiners-district-get-carved-up/

As for whether that will happen to Weiner himself — one can only speculate.

  17. Ward June 7, 2011 at 12:49 pm #

BTW–which loyal poster on this site offered this KOS-inspired “Clarence Thomas conspiracy”explanation?
“Congressman Anthony Weiner was stalked, set up, smeared, and this was coordinated to protect Clarence Thomas from scrutiny . . . And now this gang, this conservative media mafia, has done a hit on a U.S. Congressman . . . carefully timed to protect corrupt Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas from scrutiny.”

    FAIL.

  18. Rob June 7, 2011 at 1:16 pm #

Yes, almost as big of a FAIL as your insistence that a 3 week old poll was brand new and we should all be talking about it.

  19. Bbill June 7, 2011 at 1:56 pm #

Ward still hasn’t answered: does Clarence Thomas appear to have a conflict of interest in any HCR lawsuits that may get to the Court, given his wife’s financial benefit from the industry? Ward won’t answer that question. Wonder why.

  20. Ward June 7, 2011 at 5:24 pm #

Hey, BBbBilll–does Elena Kagan have a conflict when Obamacare comes before the Court, now that we have seen e-mails establishing her participation in strategy sessions to defend the plan–involvement which she has previously denied?

Would she have a conflict if DOJ or the WH Counsel’s office had been successful in keeping those e-mails private?

BTW–you must read KOS pretty regularly these days; it’s getting hard to differentiate their screed from yours.

    • Alan Bedenko June 7, 2011 at 5:28 pm #

Objection. Move to strike as non-responsive.

  21. Bbill June 7, 2011 at 7:24 pm #

Wonder why Ward refuses to answer such a simple yes or no question.

  22. Rob June 8, 2011 at 7:32 am #

Because he’s a troll, which I somehow always forget.

  23. Hank June 8, 2011 at 10:02 am #

It’s just the dichotomy of R’s and D’s, Lee does it—-Majority Leader tells him to stick a fork in his ass—he’s DONE. Weiner does it—Pelosi gives him a trophy so his feelings won’t be hurt.

I guess y’all just enjoy some good old fashioned NYS hypocrisy.

    • Alan Bedenko June 8, 2011 at 10:37 am #

Hank – since when is an ethics investigation a “trophy”?

  24. Rob June 8, 2011 at 11:00 am #

Pelosi has not defended Weiner, and as Alan sais, quickly called for an ethics investigation.

On the other hand, no one, including Boehner, has ever said that Boehner or anyone else asked Lee to resign.

Way to invent your own reality.
