Chris Collins: Disabled? (Redux)

3 Nov

Hopefully, you remember this post from July, which showed Chris Collins’s vehicle parked at a high school in Akron in a spot reserved for handicapped drivers. This was right before the Akron July 4th parade.

We have better images now – images showing Collins parking his car, exiting his car, and the fact that there were other, legal spots available.

This is scumbaggery at its most acute.

Here, Chris Collins is seen parking in a handicapped spot (Click to enlarge)

Here, Chris Collins exits his illegally parked vehicle. He seems able-bodied. Click to enlarge.

Here, Chris Collins bends down to check something on his illegally parked car. He seems able-bodied. Legal spots are visible. Click to enlarge.

Mark Poloncarz’s campaign released this statement:

In keeping with his record of arrogance and disregard for the rules, Chris Collins presumably reached a new low in conduct recently when he parked his car in a handicapped parking spot at a local high school prior to a summer parade. The attached security photos clearly show Collins pulling into a spot in his car, easily identifiable by the “CE 3” license plate, after which Collins and his wife exit and walk to the parade staging area.* Collins parked in the handicapped spot despite the availability of legal parking at the event; some of that parking was even closer to the staging area.

“This is just another example of Chris Collins following his own set of rules and disregarding the laws that the rest of us live by,” said Peter Anderson, spokesman for the Poloncarz campaign. “This is blatant disrespect at its most despicable level. Collins should issue a public apology for his reprehensible behavior.”

Collins’ blatant flaunting of the law continued with an incident on October 7, reported in Artvoice, showing him once again parking illegally, this time in front of Ulrich’s Restaurant in Buffalo.**

“Chris Collins does not have a handicapped parking permit, nor does he have the courage to stand up and tell voters why he did this,” Anderson continued. “This is just another example of Chris Collins’ public pattern of disrespect. Voters are fed up with his arrogance and rule-breaking.”

No wonder he eliminated the jobs of 12 handicapped employees who were in a protected title under state law called “55a” in which the person who is handicapped agrees to stay in that job and no one can displace them even if seniority is higher. He fixed that. He eliminated the jobs and they basically have no recourse. There are so many courageous workers who have some handicap and he doesn’t see that. may he never know what it is like to not be healthy and strong. Joe Ryan served as Commissioner of Economic Development under masiello. Joe is a paraplegic. Just imagine what it took for him or the blind who need help or the crutches and walkers that supported themselves because they passed a civil service test.

While it often seems there are far too many handicapped spots in most parking lots, I understand the purpose of these spaces and, as a reasonably fit sort, would never consider parking there.

When an able-bodied person parks in the spaces reserved for disabled folks, it makes me want to physically “disable” that person.  At the very least one should make a point to let that person know what a selfish prick they are.

It might seem like a minor issue, but it is one of many incidents that show what a thoughtless, arrogant turd our County Exec is.

This guy has a BAD case of flaunt-ulence. Peeeyooo.

Also, notice he doesn’t open his wife’s car door — some gentleman.

Back then, the word was that the parking lot he was in was mostly vacant, and so I thought it was a victimless crime and not a big fucking deal.

These photos show the lot pretty full.

Aren’t those spots reserved for the mentally and intellectually handicapped as well? If so, Chris is o.k.

is that a police car near the parking lot entrance in photos 3 and 4?

@jhorn… why yes, that indeed does appear to be a Village of Akron police cruiser. The Akron police dept is largely a part-time agency. The Chief and bulk of the officers are actually ECSD deputies. They must not have seen him…..
