£1 Fish

Fish, Nazir, a Pound

Forget Gangnam Style.

Muhammad Shahaid Nazir is a Pakistani man who until recently worked as a fishmonger at Queen’s Market at Upton Park in London. A gastarbeiter, his wife and kids still live in Pakistan, where YouTube is blocked. His boss wanted him to come up with a way to attract customers to their £1 fish special; £1 each, 6 for £5. Nazir didn’t want to shout at people, so like many market stall workers before him, he sang a song; a catchy, funny one. This made him something of a minor celebrity in London, and when a passerby shot a video of Nazir’s song and posted it to YouTube, he became a sensation in the UK and Europe.

Of course, this got Nazir a record deal, and he’s left his stall to sell records. He recently had to leave the UK and return to Pakistan to apply for a French visa. He received a hero’s welcome.

Here’s your earbug for today, Buffalo. Have-a have-a look.

Maelstrom: Mallia Out

1 Jun

The phenomenal anti-Collins Republican Maelstrom blog is reporting that Michael L. Mallia, the Republican Fonzie / Jane Corwin Assembly Chief of Staff is resigning his post.

Corwin will wear her weak defense of Mallia for many months and will endure the whispers of other Assemblymen and women behind her back. They all know that a Chief of Staff of a sitting Assemblywomen does not quit at 5 o’clock as Corwin claimed. A Chief of Staff must be available at all hours, as the Assemblywoman and other elected state officials are. Not to mention the fact Mallia was obviously working for Corwin and her campaign when the video was recorded otherwise Langworthy would not have immediately posted it on the official Republican Party YouTube website.

Had this happened on or about May 12th, after Mallia’s video ricocheted back into her campaign’s face, Corwin may have had a better shot in the special election.

Now? the video has been removed from the ECGOP YouTube stream. Only people who have the code can view it. What was once a source of excitement and pride is now a symbol of utter failure.

Yes, this is your Republican VP nominee as a sports anchor for KTUU-TV in Anchorage, AK back in 1988.  Full 80’s hair on display and an ayyyyccent that is right out of Cheektowaga/Fargo.  I love her reporting on scores with “Da Mayyyple Leafs are killin da Oilers dare”.  Love it.

Hey, at least she did better than this guy:
