Buffalo’s Months have 60+ Days

14 Feb

60 days ago, “Canal Side” was born, and with it a 30-day deadline for Bass Pro to “fish or cut bait”.

30 days ago, the 30-day deadline expired, but it would not be enforced to permit an imminent deal for Bass Pro to instead build a smaller store on a separate site having nothing to do with the Aud, to be completed.

Today marks 30 days after the expiration of the 30-day deadline, and we’re back to the same bleating on about ongoing “talks” being conducted via email, fax, and phone (but not in person), and about how close they are to a deal. ECHDC’s Larry Quinn won’t comment more on what must rank as the longest-running contractual negotiation in history to lure a store everyone’s grown weary of.

“Bass Pro” isn’t a sporting goods store. It’s the punchline to a joke.

Keep on trading emails and faxes, guys. Continue to keep us in the dark about it, even though you’re playing with public money and public property. No one really cares anymore.

This so true! Who cares anymore? I was alright with them building on the Aud site. Remodel or from scratch, but don’t give them prime waterfront property. That’s just stupid because they clearly aren’t worth it. Maybe we can tie this deal to that new bridge that’s going up any day now. 😉

Broken record time: As I’ve been saying almost since day one. I’ll be more surprised if Bass Pro gets built than if it doesn’t

Kill it already and put us out of our misery. This project does not even have the slightest shred of credibilty anymore. It’s downright embarrassing.

When this project was announced BP was described as a unique entity with huge drawing power. It was going to be combined with hotels and museums. It was going to be the chain’s second largest store making it a very special (so we were told) destination for many. It was going to reuse a historic building that holds great memories for many in WNY. All this was supposedly justification for spending millions of public money.

None of the above attributes appear to be true any more. So What dose Buffalo gain for the money spent on BP now? A big box store on a valuable shore line parcel seems quite silly actually.

That’s the second time you’ve used that photo Pundit… I laughed even harder the second time around.

Sheesh. And WNY continues to be a cemetary for White Elephants.

[…] As Pundit points out, it’s been 30 days since Buffalo’s 30 day deadline for Bass Pro to poop or get off the pot. Still in talks. Sounds about right. […]

[…] Depending on how you count it, this marks the 30-day anniversary of the expiration of the 30-day extension for the 30-days set by Mayor Byron Brown to wind up or abandon talks on a Bass Pro mega store on the historic Erie Canal waterfront.  Buffalo Pundit celebrates the anniversary nicely, and the Buffalo News celebrates with a brand new color picture of lead negotiator Larry Quinn.  I humbly note this is the 1,819th day of our embarrassing civic groveling.  But it’s also Valentine’s Day, so let me suggest we give the gift of Bass Pro to the Honeymoon Capital of the world.
