Jon Powers Endorses Alice Kryzan for Congress

17 Oct

UPDATE: Jon Powers responds to his critics in comments here.

Friends,

Over the last 18 months, together, we have worked to call attention to the many challenges Western New Yorkers face. I listened to families struggling because of our weakened economy, soldiers fighting in a war without the necessary equipment and returning without health care they have earned — there is no question that our country is hurting because of Washington’s failed leadership. With just 18 days until Election Day, I write to urge you to vote for change. We have a chance to elect a new Member of Congress to represent the working men and women of Western New York and I hope you will join me in supporting Alice Kryzan for Congress.

Families in Western New York have a clear choice. As our youth are moving out of state to find jobs, do we want a representative who will continue to send our jobs overseas? Or do we want someone who will fight to grow good paying Green-collar and Green-tech jobs that will move Western New York into the 21st Century.

Do we want someone who will continue to fail our veterans and military families or someone who will work to restore honor to our fighting forces?

Do we want someone in Washington to continue the failed economic policies of the Bush Administration or do we want someone who will work toward relieving the tax burden on the Middle Class?

The choice between the two candidates campaigning for the 26th Congressional District is clear for Western New Yorkers, and that is why I am endorsing Alice Kryzan.

Alice will fight for the middle class and work to bring a new generation of jobs back to Western New York. She has signed on to the Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq and will take care of our returning veterans.

Chris Lee talks about a new direction, but clearly supports the status quo. His website fails to even mention veterans or our brave men and women currently fighting in two wars. That, I believe, is proof of his lack of compassion he has for those who are defending our nation.

The choice between Alice Kryzan and Chris Lee could not be clearer for the working families of Western New York. Western New York deserves a representative in Congress who will fight for us.

You can learn more about Alice’s vision for our country at her website http://www.kryzanforcongress.com/

Please volunteer, spread the word, and help us bring real change to Washington by voting for Alice on November 4th.

I think it was something he had to do for the Democratic party, but it was a good call for him to do it.

I wonder where the people are who bitched and whined that he wasn’t endorsing her? Hopefully they’re eating their words with a knife and fork.

I still don’t think Alice is a good choice for congress, although neither is Chris Lee. I wonder what Alice’s repsonse is about the 80K she took in special interest money?

  2. Russell October 17, 2008 at 2:37 pm #

Didn’t I read that Alice is getting one of the minor party lines because Jonny moved out of state? That’s great. Like a spoiled little child, he ran away when he didn’t get his way. Now he has the nerve to tell us what’s best for our community? It seems like he only cared about the community when he could get something out of it. Now that he can’t live off of us, he doesn’t care so enough about the people here to actually stay and fight to make a difference, like he claimed. It was all a front, just to further himself. He wanted to represent us, but now he doesn’t even want to live among us. Just another sign of his class, or lack thereof.

  3. Mike In WNY October 17, 2008 at 2:39 pm #

38 days after his primary loss, the endorsement arrives. It doesn’t quite meet the criteria for a ringing endorsement.

  4. Russell October 17, 2008 at 2:40 pm #

mizard, endorsing less than three weeks before the election rather than in the days following the primary is a lot like waiting a day or two after an election to call and concede or congratulate your opponent. There is no need for those people to eat their words. They were right and now it’s too little, too late, especially in light of his skipping town.

  5. hank October 17, 2008 at 2:52 pm #

Jon sez: Hell I don’t live there anymore, so what difference does it make that I endorse her or not? OK, it makes me look better than when I busted that move out of the State. Like it matters to me anymore!

If his words were to have REAL effect and purpose, he should have done it PRIMARY NIGHT, or at least before he bagged ass to a job in D.C.

  6. The Wizard October 17, 2008 at 2:55 pm #

Blow it out your ass Russell. You are a disgrace and a terrible American, not to mention a fucking moron with one-sided view of everything.

  7. The Wizard Jr October 17, 2008 at 2:57 pm #

Forget about the endorsement, I want to know what Kryzan’s response is to taking $80,000 in PAC money after she pledged to not do it???????? Pundit, where are you on this?????? She pledged to the voters that she wouldn’t do it and now she is. Do you not think that is an issue worth finding an answer for your readers?

Does the Kryzan campaign have a response to this or are they just burying their heads in the sand. The pledge to not take special interest money was a major part of Alice’s platform, fuck, it was part of her campaign slogan.

FROM HER WEBSITE: “In Congress, Alice will fight for our interests over the special interests.”

Why did she decide to do it after the primary? Are Washington Insiders now running the campaign of the perennial outsider???? Sounds like it and Anne Wadsworth isn’t really coming out with any snarky reply which tells me the Kryzan campaign doesn’t even have a message as to why they sold out…

    Not good for the Dems.

  8. Buffalopundit October 17, 2008 at 3:05 pm #

    Wizard – tone it down.

Other than that, I have very little interest in the race for the 26th district except to say that Kryzan > Lee, and she’s not Jack Davis.

  9. The Wizard October 17, 2008 at 3:06 pm #

Does it really surprise you, Jr.? We are talking about a Woman who sold out sick, cancerous children in Love Canal to huge polluting chemical companies. She is a typical moraless liberal who only cares about herself.

I’d like to hear from Anne Wadsworth on this, so consider this post an official call out. Anne: I know you are reading this. Please answer the voters’ questions on why Alice sold out to the tune of $80,000!!

  10. Russell October 17, 2008 at 3:10 pm #

It’s a good thing I’m the only person on this site to ever have a one-sided view on anything. I have no idea what makes me a disgrace or a terrible American, though.

  11. The Wizard October 17, 2008 at 3:13 pm #

I think it’s a bit disrespectful, no matter what you feel about the guy, to say he only cares about his community when he can profit from it. I think his record pretty much speaks for itself regarding that nonsense, Russell.

  12. Russell October 17, 2008 at 3:18 pm #

I don’t think his record does, so please enlighten on that. Seriously, please tell me how his record shows how much he cares for this community. Also, how does my opinion of Jonny make me a disgrace or a terrible American. Please enlighten me on that, too. I think he disrespected us far more than I’m disrespecting him.

  13. The Wizard Jr October 17, 2008 at 3:22 pm #

Will you guys get over Powers. Hey Alice: Girl, take the hypocrisy somewhere else!!!!!!! At least have the courage to level with the voters as to why you took $80,000 (almost half of what you raised this quarter) from special interests. Pundit, you should at least call the campaign and get their answer. It could be, yet another, scoop on the Buffalo News by the Pundit.

  14. The Wizard October 17, 2008 at 3:25 pm #

Russell – give me a damn break. Where have you been the past 1.5 years? The guy has a solid record of public service under his belt, which to you must not mean very much. That record would have been streghtened by representing this area in Congress but unfortunately, ignorant folk like you bought into the lies put out there by Alice and Jack.

You strike me as yet another person who didn’t bother to go out and listen to the candidates during the primary. Instead, you got your info from television ads. Thanks, Russell, for your stellar contribution to this community.

  15. The Wizard October 17, 2008 at 3:28 pm #

How dare you disrespect me in public, Jr.!!!

Seriously, how is McCarthy from the Buffalo News not all over this story already? Maybe he’s saving it for his awesome Sunday column.

  16. wizards cousin mizard October 17, 2008 at 3:31 pm #

Russell is a completed moron, always has been always will be.

He attacks Powers yet has done nothing for the community. Russell – ever think the guy took a job out of town to help the Democratic party? It’s the only way for Kryzan to get him off the WFP.

Russell – are you sexually frustrated that you’re not Jon Powers? Your overall attitude towards the guy is borderline stalker. Granted your an ignorant Republican (note: not all Republican’s are ignorant – had Russell been a Democrat he’d be an ignorant Democrat).

You’ve also stated you’ve worked in politics before I believe? What are three things you’ve done to make this community a better place? Beside’s lying about something to do with the Sheriff’s or police department (it’s been researched – you don’t appear on that anywhere).

  17. wizards cousin mizard October 17, 2008 at 3:35 pm #

Hank – why does Alice deserve his endorsement? She spread lies regarding his War Kid’s effort, and now she’s been proven a liar about special interest money… the only two things she was able to hit Powers with.

I’m guessing the endorsement is for the good of the party, probably along with the move to D.C.

But, in one of his emails he stated he’ll be working with veterans and candidates to develope veteran councils – that’s pretty noble in my book.

You and Russell should move to Massachussetts or California, get married, and hate on something else for a change. Neither of you could hold a candle to Powers.

Maybe you’re just a little jealous? Real sad for two grown men.

  18. russells an idiot October 17, 2008 at 3:54 pm #

Russell is just an idiot. I wouldn’t worry about him.

Anyone who is that negatively obsessed with someone can be considered borderline insane. That in turn means anything he says is completely off balance, and therefore all his views can be ignored.

He’s just an angry little guy who can’t get anyone to listen to him anymore.

  19. Russell October 17, 2008 at 3:55 pm #

First, I love how the defense of Powers always has to come back to claiming he did more than me or someone else. It’s not about that. It was not stated that his service to this community is relative. It was said that he has a strong record of service to this community. Other than running for Congress the past 1.5 years I do not see anything he did for the WNY community. Yes, he served his nation, but that’s not what we’re talking about. The question is specifically about WNY.

Second, I have no idea what research you’ve done, but my service to the Sheriff’s Department is real and so was all the money I brought in for them and it’s been verified by third pary agencies as well. I’m proud of my record of serving this community in my work in the public sector, in my private sector career, in my volunteer and charity work, and in my academic work. I’m confident I’ve served this community better than Jonny, but I never tried to use it as an excuse to run for Congress. I’ve never presented it to the public to build myself up like he had.

But again I ask, what is Jonny’s amazing record of service to this community? I charged that running for office seems to have been more for personal gain rather than service to the community. His record of skipping town after losing and numerous attempts to gain financially while running seem to bolster my claim. Please stop trying to hide behind attacks on me. You guys claim Jonny is so great and has done so much for us. Tell me exactly what he’s done. Don’t tell me he’s comparatively better than others, just tell me plainly and simply what he’s done. If I’m so ignorant and there’s so much information out there that I never received, please present some of it now and educate me.

  20. Russell October 17, 2008 at 3:59 pm #

I would also like to point out that I never initiated a discussion on Jonny. Everything I’ve ever said was in response to what Pundit has posted on here and what most of you have followed up with. If you think I’m obsessed with Jonny, Pundit and most of you have to be just as equally obsessed. Actually, you folks have to be more since I’ve never begun the discussion and I’ve never worshipped him, held him up or participated in the Jonny lovefest that infected this website for so long.

  21. The Wizard October 17, 2008 at 4:02 pm #

Ok, let’s get the focus back on Alice being a hypocrite.

  22. Russell October 17, 2008 at 4:31 pm #

I thought the thread was about Jonny and his endorsement of Alice, but if that’s the road you want to travel down, Wizard, I’ll oblige. If Alice is a hypocrite, what does that make Jonny? He claims he cared about this community, but deserted it right after he lost. Then, he turns around and tells us that the person he ran against and he and his surrogates railed against is now a great candidate and great for this community. He even has the nerve to include himself as “we” when talking about our community that he left. He won’t be included in the “we” represented by this next person, but it’s not stopping him from speaking like he is.

Also, what does it make Pundit and so many other Democrats on this site that posted regularly against Alice putting her down, attacking her, and sometimes getting very vicious, but now support her or at least will vote for her?

I don’t see much difference between her hyprocracy, as you label it, and what Jonny did, what Pundit’s done and what so many others on this site are doing.

I also like how you can’t list anything Jonny’s done for the WNY community.

  23. scott rytlewski October 17, 2008 at 4:39 pm #

smoke and mirros 38 day after he lost and set himself up jon just keep making bad choices

  24. The Wizard October 17, 2008 at 4:43 pm #

Russell – Powers never said how great of a Candidate was in the email. He said she will fight for Working Families and Vets.

Powers never trashed Alice in the primary, it was the other way around.

It seems to me like it’s a lose lose situation for Powers in your eyes: Stick around town and stay on the ballot and you would call him a spoiler. OR, he leaves town to try and open up a minor party line for Alice AND endorses her and you cry foul saying that he bailed on a community he cares nothing about.

Russell and Splett hate the troops.

  25. The Wizard October 17, 2008 at 4:45 pm #

Scott – Why is endorsing Alice the wrong thing to do?

  26. mike hudson October 17, 2008 at 4:50 pm #

now did jonny no-powers, the fraud who loves wny so much he’s leaving it, wait until poor old alice dropped so low in the polls that her loss to republican chris lee was a mathematical certainty before issuing his weak “endorsement”?

and will one person on the face of the fucking planet — other than pundit — even care about who the bum endorses?

that this creep and charlatan paid a fine for motherfucking an ohio cop, used money people thought they were giving to iraqi war orphans to pay his own salary, used money people thought they were giving to his congressional campaign to pay his rent, lost a race that was basically handed to him on a silver platter and then took a job as a fucking washington lobbyist has been the shining star of “progressivism” is the shiningest example of FAIL i’ve seen in the last decade here, and a sad commentary on what passes for analytical thought on the part of the progressives themselves.

  28. The Wizard October 17, 2008 at 4:58 pm #

LOL Hudson! Kudos to you sir. You are even better than me at provoking people.

Just one point though that may pass for fact at the NF Reporter, but not in reality. Powers isn’t a lobbyist, so….

  29. wizards cousin mizard October 17, 2008 at 5:15 pm #

scott rytlewski why aren’t you the chair person of Orleans Country anymore Scott? Bitter much?

Hudson – remember when your paper got shut down because you were taking bribes to trash people? That was hilarious. And remember when you got fired for being drunk… even better.

Russell- you didn’t do anything to bring in money stop taking other peoples credit. You’re a loser and you just can’t stand when good people do things to help others.

    Russell’s life = fail!

  33. Jon Powers October 17, 2008 at 5:34 pm #

    Dear Russell & associates,

I appreciate your concern over my service to this community and would be happy to discuss it with you. Perhaps we could start with my working with my father as a child volunteering in soup kitchens, cooking hotdogs at the Clarence Day in the Park for nearly 20 years, working with groups doing roadside clean ups in my community, or my Eagle Scout project for battered women shelters here in WNY.

Maybe you’d also like to discuss when I joined ROTC so I could serve this nation both at peace and at war, which included nearly a year and a half in Iraq securing a 50,000 person sector in Baghdad. There’s also the program I worked for while I was substitute teaching, which helped developmentally disabled college students who needed extra tutoring while studying in local colleges.

Sure, I left the area to join the service when I was stationed in Germany and Iraq, but continually wrote to schools here in Clarence when deployed in Iraq and worked with folks at home who sent over 5000 pairs of shoes we delivered to children in Baghdad. You may mock my War Kids Relief efforts, but that would show ignorance in listening to certain opponents attack ads and not the real story or the facts.

Our family has worked and served this community proudly for a long time. I just did not feel it appropriate to discuss this on the campaign trail as I attempted to focus on the community and the problems and solutions that this area and nation need.

I have moved to Washington, DC to work with campaigns all across this nation to help them develop their Veterans Outreach. This is a position I would not be able to obtain while remaining in Buffalo, where I was born and raised and proudly call my home. I will be able to make an impact not only in WNY, but in communities just like WNY all across the nation. I believe this is an incredibly important election year and want to make sure we can bring the real change necessary to get this nation back on track. That is why I am making the sacrifice to move away from my home and family to make a difference, while still working with family to help make an impact at home.

I am sorry you feel the way you do, but perhaps you can get out there and change things in your community instead of mocking those who try. In the words of Robert Kennedy, “we all struggle to transcend the cruelties and the follies of mankind. That struggle will not be won by standing aloof and pointing a finger; it will be won by action, by men who commit their every resource of mind and body to the education and improvement and help of their fellow man.”

If you would like to talk more, please forward your number to Pundit and I would be happy to discuss this in further detail.

    Sincerely,

    Jon Powers

how does anyone know that was jon powers? how does anyone know this is mike hudson?

it is plain and apparent who stabs is.

and since he asked, i remember my paper being closed for two weeks while a case of theft was being investigated, yet i do. the great niagara falls city police department will be acting on that shortly. and yes, i remember being fired many times for being drunk, though i never worked as a junkman.

  38. The Wizard October 17, 2008 at 7:09 pm #

And how do you know I’m actually The Wizard?

By the way, who is stabs? and who works as a junkman? I didn’t know your liver actually almost failed, Hudson. I was always joking about that cause, ya know, you drink so much and so often. Still funny never the less I guess. I urge everyone to read the link I posted above – great bio piece on our friend Hudson.

There you go. Where did all the haters go? This is the moment you’ve all been waiting for. Your chance to call out Powers!

Hudson, if you’re sober enough, maybe you can ask Powers a question nicely and have him answer it. You call yourself a reporter. I don’t recall ever reading a quote from him in any of the disgusting hit pieces you put out there in the Reporter during the primary? Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think so. Fucking drunk coward.

  41. mike hudson October 17, 2008 at 9:27 pm #

that was a good piece wiztard, there are many others online as well. the fullest accounting of my depraved life however, can be found in my most recent book, “diary of a punk,” available at bookstores everywhere or, if you prefer, on amazon, alibris etc. i will be reading sections from it as part of a filmed interview at the rock and roll hall of fame & museum on nov. 19, the event is free and open to the public, and i would urge wiztard and all the little tards to attend so they can be dealt with in one fell swoop.

and how funny is it that a guy too chickenshit to write under his own name would call someone else a coward.

  42. wiztard October 17, 2008 at 9:28 pm #

you’re right mike, i really am an asshole.

  44. The Wizard October 17, 2008 at 9:55 pm #

But Mike, I thought we couldn’t believe who people say they are on this blog? How can we be sure you’re Drunk Hudson? So what difference does it make whether I say my name is Tim Wimann… or The Wizard. So, there you go.

Can I have a free copy of you’re book? I would like to read it to understand the complex, and very drunk, life of Michael Hudson. My favorite chapters will be the ones about your liver failure from alcohol abuse, you getting canned from the Gazette for being drunk at work, how you make shit up and call it credible in your weekly scandal sheet, and how you smell of booze and kill bears.

  45. Jon Splett October 17, 2008 at 9:56 pm #

Wow. Apparently I missed all the fun while I was seeing Ralph Nader speak. I’m glad Wizard managed to remind everyone how much I hate the troops (which of course, isn’t quite true, I just hate anyone who voluntary signs up to fight for an army they know is being used unjustly and is willing to kill for that army)

Classy move by Jon to defend himself without discounting the attacks his supporters launched against the woman he just ‘endorsed’.

Hope the job in DC works out well for ya man. Keep helping veterans get into office for us. That McCain guy is a great example as to why we need to keep the guys who volunteer to shoot people in power right?

I think Jon could have done more to back up Alice, but I’m guessing that he was considering continuing his run on the third-party line. I would have had no problem with that, although his chances would have been pretty slim. (side note: someday, someone’s going to have to figure out how to make a third party work).

splett – why is it Powers job to defend Kryzan? She’s a big girl isn’t she. She didn’t defend him when she falsey trashed his charity work.

  56. WNYPMH October 18, 2008 at 8:32 am #

Powers provided an endorsement. Had Alice won without boldly lieing about him after she said she would not on Hardline, I imagine it would have come sooner, and possibly even been stronger. Alice isn’t losing this race because of Jon Powers or his supporters. Alice is losing this race because she has no organization and no money, and unfortunately has little charisma either.

I appreciate Jon’s response to the allegations about his lack of service to the community. It should put all of that crap to bed. As I said in an earlier post, kids grow up with the values that their parents instill in them, and to this day Mr. and Mrs. Powers volunteer for everything they can in their retirement. Mr. Powers weekly loads shipping containers of used furniture and such to send to less developed countries like Nicaruaga while Mrs.Powers volunteered on the organization committee of the Clarence Bicentenial. Jon is an upstanding citizen of WNY because his family taught him those values. I’ll stand behind Powers accomplishments, and quite honestly hold him up as a role model. And, by the way, I am not him, related to him, his high school friend, a former coworker. I met Jon in January of 08 and worked on his campaign because of who he is and what he wanted to accomplish.

Those of you who disagree with Jon, feel free. You live in America and our Constitution allows for it. But those of you who turn it into hatefilled personal attacks, please crawl back into the hole you came out of and tune into Rush Limbaugh. Rush and you represent the worst of America.

  63. wizards cousin mizard October 19, 2008 at 12:14 am #

And Hudson, you’re a low life dick bag with a key board. What’s your point?

Did you buy a new car with the Jack Davis pay offs yet?

  64. Jon Splett October 19, 2008 at 12:22 am #

“garcia was a halfassed banjo player who got fat and overdosed in a rehab clinic. psychedelic, man.”

Amen. A 15 minute guitar solo isn’t talent, it’s indecision.

  65. mike October 19, 2008 at 1:13 am #

Hey Hudson, at least he knew how to play, not like your hero elvis.

  66. wizards cousin mizard October 19, 2008 at 8:20 am #

Splett – spit on any soldiers lately?

  67. The Wizard October 19, 2008 at 10:31 am #

Hudson – as usual you are wrong again. You’re entitled to your opinion about his playing or not, but please have some respect!! Jerry did indeed live a very unhealthy life – heroin, coke, overeating – but at least he tried to beat it. Unlike you letting your liver fail. Jerry did not overdose in a rehab clinic you fucking ass. He checked himself in to one to try and turn things around and had a heartattack one morning there and died.

Another thing: Why is Splett still here? There’s a unit coming home from Iraq in Niagara Falls today. I figured Splett would be waiting to spit and throw tomatoes at them.

  68. Dave A. October 19, 2008 at 11:59 am #

Hey Wiz – who’s coming home today? I haven’t seen anything in the papers about it.

  69. The Wizard October 19, 2008 at 12:10 pm #

Dave A. – check the NF Reporter. Best reporting in the area!!

  70. Dave A. October 19, 2008 at 12:39 pm #

Wiz – I’m out of town, and can’t find it on the online Reporter. Do you have a link?

Why would I spit on someone who’s been trained to kill?

I didn’t spit on the homeless veteran who asked me for change outside of Wilson Farms yesterday, I felt sorry for him and gave him a buck for a 40. He bought into a lie that serving his country would make his life better when in fact it just left him completely maladjusted for a normal life upon returning. When the only life skill you get taught is ,’ shut up and do what you’re told and shoot who we say’ it’s really not that surprising.

Spitting on vets is SOOOOOO 1960’s and I’m not some stinking hippie.

And I’ll ask again, when are you enlisting? Army recruitment is way down (because apparently Americans have morals and won’t sign up to invade countries who’ve done nothing to us) and they need you. If you don’t hate America and the troops, seems to me you’d join and help them. Why do you hate America Wizard?

  72. The Wizard October 19, 2008 at 12:55 pm #

Dave A. – you’re so clever! OMG you stumped The Wiz!!. Take it easy buddy. It’s not true.

  73. The Wizard October 19, 2008 at 12:57 pm #

Splett – so in your world, not hating on American soldiers equates to having to enlist in the military? Bizarre.

  74. Dave A. October 19, 2008 at 1:35 pm #

Wiz – wasn’t trying to stump you. I used to be in the 914th, and try to keep up with their comings and goings. Didn’t realize you were goofin’.

  75. The Wizard October 19, 2008 at 1:39 pm #

    My apologies, Sir.

  76. wizards cousin mizard October 19, 2008 at 4:52 pm #

splett- i dont need to enlist i already served. im 100% proud of my service. i did it to pay my debt to this country for all the freedoms i enjoy. sadly you get to enjoy them for free, because people like me take your share of the work you fucking pussy.

mizard, I responded to the Jonny stuff on the thread set up for that. I’ve been told no one cares about my background before, but you keep bringing it up. I don’t know what you want as proof of my work and I have no idea what documentation you’re expecting to exist. When I apply for a job, I submit references and supervisor contact information along with my resume. My story about my grant writing in the Sheriff’s Office has been checked out by a number of jobs I’ve applied for. In fact, I recieved two job offers from highly respected federal agencies specifically in part due to my work on the ICAC program. Those also accompanied background checks that included judging the veracity of my claims. I have been granted and maintain top secret security clearance as a result of those checks.

It sure seems like you do not understand how things work in the real world, but when you’re writing for an official you rarely, if ever, get public credit for your writing. It goes to the official, but the official, your co-workers and your supervisors know. I don’t understand why you have such an intense interest in my work record and my background. I’ve never offered it as public record for public office. If I was looking to your for a job, you’d be able to find the information you need. Many of my potential employers have been more than satisfied with the information and contacts I’ve provided them. I’ve been very successful as a result, but thanks for your interest and concern.
